Off to the in laws to use their driveway and outside tap to use some new toys:

  • Nilfisk c110.3 pressure washer
  • Autobrite snowfoam lance
  • Autobrite citrus snow foam (selected the wrong one to come in the lance package but will do to start off till I get used to snow foaming)
  • Chemical guys wheel guard (already on from day one of me having the car - one bit of prep I did do)
  • Chemical guys diablo gel (might not need to use as wheel guard has done well with just allowing muck to wipe off so far)
  • Dooka Woolies wash pad
  • Dooka Woolies wheel mit
  • Poorboys waffle weave towel
  • Meguirs Gold Class

Obviously washed with 2 bucket method.

Then all finished off with a few beers (for me not the car)

Then at some point in the coming months I really need to get involved with wax/sealant but previous experience has proven this to be a chore and hard work.

But isn't that the really important bit?

Sure is!

Waxing or sealing is only a chore if you apply too much, or don't follow instructions.

I'd personally recommend Collinite 845 Insulator Wax - It is virtually error proof, can be applied to whole car in 15 minutes.

Yeah I'd go along with that.

I applied it to my car a few days ago for the first time. It was brilliant and easy to use. I will add a few things here though. It says on the bottle that the surface of the car should be warm to the touch and only to do a 2ft square area at a time. Well, this time of year you ain't gonna get a warm car and as Stu says... just do the whole car and then remove. Job done. You will be impressed...I was.

15 mins! Think I might get me some of that then. My cars never been waxed.

Enjoy your day and I hope that you get on well with the dooka Wash products.......... :)

I would strongly suggest laying down some protection while your completing your above process and the main thing to remember with applying waxes / sealants is 'a little goes a long way'........ ;)

Did it this morning all worked well the one real surprise was the waffle weave towel made drying so easy (only been used to chamois in the past).

My hand wash method I think can do with some improvement but ill work on that the coming months.

Ill post some pics later when I get back to a computer.

I keep hearing about the Collinite 845 and am very tempted to get hold of some, is it really that easy even by hand?

One bucket is for the water and fairy liquid the other is plain water to rinse out the old tee-shirt you are using.

No seriously here is a video with the full story.

No sorry wrong one

this is the right one

But remember watch at your own risk you can never get those seven minutes back again.

Collinite 845 is very easy to use by hand but so are most other waxes / sealants, it's all about less is more when applying otherwise you just waste product and make it harder for yourself to remove..........:(

Here she is, I was fairly happy with the result. Going to order some Collinite 845 for next time.

All waxes should be applied by hand ...Never with a machine

Going to go against the grain on that one, waxes can be applied by machine depending on the wax in question..........

I bow to your superior knowledge Simon...Which ones?

Looks great. Well done

Superb finish on that IMT, how long did it take you do it all?

Around 2 hours all in all, I did skimp a little with the hand wash though and could've been a bit more thorough.

Their wash technique is all wrong; Sponges, rotary motion...

I am not too sure about superior knowledge but I just think that it's fair that people understand the correct information.

We have been playing with waxes and sealants for a long time now and as with many things it's down to the end users personal preference but we have found that it's possible to apply both liquid and soft waxes buy a DA. The beauty of this is that you use a small amount of product and you can apply a very thin coating over the whole car easily.

The images below show the application of Swissvax BOS by DA:

You would not be able to apply something like FK 1000P by a DA as it's too hard a wax but something like BOS, CG 50/50, etc are possible.............:)

OK..Possible with soft waxes as you say but I still see no real benefit using a DA to apply it even if it ensures a thin coat

So I'll be ok using an applicator pad and my hands with the 845? Apply thinly and leave for 15 mins or so?

It's on order so will just need some dry weather once it arrives.

Maybe leave it a little longer in this cold damp weather...or even do the whole car before you remove. You'll be happy with the result I'm sure.

Thanks, nice one. Be prepared for more questions in the coming months
