About to Purchase an Octavia...

Featured Replies

Evening All,

First post on here, so be nice :)

I am about to buy a '11 Octavia 2.0 TFSi vRS, is there anything I should be aware of when buying this? Car only has 7000 miles on the clock.

What kind of MPG/Fuel Range do you get?

What are service intervals?

Thanks

Hi mate,

The petrol boys will help you out with any possible issues, but I haven't seen anything specific for newish vRSs plus you'll still have some warrenty on it. Depending on how you drive and type of journeys the unleaded lot seem to get between high 20s to low 30s with circa 40 on a run. Servicing wise an 11plate with 7k on the clock should be on the fixed annual 10000 mile service plan. What you do from now on will depend on type of driving and annual milage. If you go on the skoda website and look at the octavia brochure it covers when you should be variable vs fixed on about page 35 or 36 under 'servicing'

Enjoy!

If it's a Skoda dealer, you've got nothing to worry about with the warranty.

Mine's a diesel which gives near 50mpg and 550+miles, but from what I've read (depending on how you drive) you should get between 25-37mpg and 3-400mile range...

Service can be fixed (10k) or varied (10-20k depending how you drive).

Great car, mine's just coming up to 1 yr old - no problems after 30,000 miles...

Good luck.

Still under warranty so I wouldn't worry too much. But in the test drive do the usual slow and mid range wiggles to ensure things are tight.

Check under boot tyre for water... just interested :)

I have an 11 Vrs Tsi and have only done 10k so far. I average 34mpg a mixture of A and B roads no motorways, when visiting friends family and use the motorway it will sit about 42-44mpg at a steady 75mph on the satnav.

I too have switched to the fixed 1yr/10k servicing as I like my oil changed every year rather than the 2yr/20k which is too long for my short journeys.

Good car you have chosen, smooth, fuel efficient and pretty fast.

Welcome to the forum btw :)

Not a vrs but my cupra averages 26/28 on short trips, mine too is on short services. Only thing to watch out for is the cam tensioner

I've a 2 month old one it has averaged 30mpg since day one. That's with 70% A road 30% town, taking it steady with the odd blast of how it's supposed to be driven (its so much fun). On one long motorway journey I did I got 34.

One thing I would say if you sit in a lot of traffic expect it to be mid 20's it really doesn't like it.

These are all tracked mpg and not relying on the trip computer.

Great car though, enjoy.

Your car is a TSI not a TFSI , different engine ,easiest way to tell open the bonnet, the oil filter is looking at you and upside down ! The only thing that happens on TSI engines is the chain tensioner,(cambelt not rubber anymore) can loose tension when cold, then you start it and bang, you destroy the top of the engine, my mate had it on his, (new engine under warranty) and a few cases on here, but one tried to wriggle out of a replacement.I don't wish to worry you, but if it does happen( god forbid, you can then quote them this thread!

Hi Lukas

I had a 2010 FL TSI vRS from new which I ran to 86k miles before replacing it with a new 2012 TSI vRS. I've recorded just about everything related to the car on my blogs on pistonheads (links in my sig below). Mine was on variable servicing so they came around every 18k or thereabouts. Overall I got around 33mpg but that will vary based on how you use the car.

I would suggest you check wear on the rear tyres (bad alignment gives uneven wear and tyre noise) easy fix though. I'd also check the side bolster on the seat as these have been known to fail (seat airbag supports the seat foam and can be easily broken) again a known problem to the dealer and should be under warranty if it's failed.

Also, as stated there have been a small number of tsi engines where the tensioner has failed - again, all resolved under warranty iirc but for piece of mind there is a revised tensioner design on later engines that you could probaby retro fit.

Other than that, it's an excellent car. Fantastic value for money and good quality. I cound not find anything that came close to the performance/size/price proposition that the vRS represents, hence why my new car is another one.. !

:)

TSi engine is great but they are thirsty; be surprised if it ever gets anywhere near Skodas 37mpg combined claim in the real world. If running costs are of any concern and you can accept a small loss of performance a CR diesel might be a better bet. Still v quick and capable of real 50mpg economy. Otherwise the petrol is probably the one to have.

I have had a 2009 TSI estate for just over 2 years. Bought at 5k has now done 26k.

So far it's been a really great car. Fun to drive, practical and more than enough performance for an average driver (like me!).

Mpg is 28 to 32 around town, and just under 40 on a longer run.

Reliability has been OK so far, only failure has been a thermostat housing which was replaced at the start of 2011 under warranty.

The service intervals on the car are set at 10k and so far servicing costs have been very reasonable, iirc the last one was 130.

Hope you enjoy yours!

Welcome, and has already been said, check the inner edge of the rear tyes for sawtoothing.

I would be suprised if it wasn't doing it, most seem to and a geometry check on a Hunter rig puts it right (and 2 new tyres).
