2009 Superb 2.0 TDI 170 Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi

Been on this forum a few weeks.

Was looking to buy an Octavia vRS TDI DSG 170.

But the 1.8 TSI was quicker and cheaper - but couldnt find a L&K DSG one.

So took a pot chance and now going to view a Superb.

Amazingly its got a lot of toys :-)

Can i ask wot i ned to look out for whn inspecting and test driving the car?

Its done 75k.

Thks!

At 75k its due a cambelt change in the next 5k so budget that into the price.

Also make sure the columbus satnav works ok and turn the volume up with the radio on to see if the speaker's rattle in the doors.mines dont but some do and it can get on your nerves.

you will be getting a far better car with the superb,if your buying from a dealer make a point of asking if the warranty covers the Columbus.they are expensive to replace the rest of the car is almost bullet proof

bill

I'd get them to do the cam belt if you are buying from a dealer. Other than that not a lot other than what others have said about the Columbus. I'm just trading a 2008 Elegance back in with 93,000 on it that the dealer intends to sell himself, with their years warranty on it, if that gives you an idea of how reliable they are.

Cheers guys.

Its from a private dealer.

Serviced at skoda 20k, 40k and 72k.

So how much for a cambelt + 80k service from skoda?!!!

Darn! Forgot abt the volumne :-(

Front park sensors beeping whn reversing?!!!

Its a VERY nice car!

Feels smaller thn Octavia.

I have a 09 Superb 170.Brill car very comfy and quick, all at the same time!,,201000 km and apart from tyres, regular servicing and a cambelt no problem. Had to replace some erg valve but that was warranty. As has been said Bulletproof.

Anything to worry abt?

And how do i chk its been recalled and fixed?

image_zps8011f02b.jpg

If its a DSG box on the diesel (6 speed) the gearbox oil needs replacing every 40,000 miles

So 2nd time to be done at 80,000 miles

Serviced at skoda 20k, 40k and 72k.

Unless you have missed out a service there then it does not have a FSH, they also don’t tend to do 20K between services either (17-18K seems to be the ‘norm’ on variable servicing)

So I would say it has had servicing done as and when the owner could be bothered… time to look deep and hard at the car, personally I would walk away.

Cheers guys.

Its an ex-rep car.

Maintained by LEX i think.

But serviced at PRESTON Skoda (Essex).

Last service 72k with DPF failure (assumed fixed)?

Front sensor beeping whn in reverse.

Currently sorn with mot til jun 2013.

Seats look a bit worn.

Drives lovely.

Gears a bit slow to engage (like most autos)?

from what you have told us i would walk away find another one.the bit that worries me is the last service a gap off 40.000 is not good and its just possible that the car may have been clocked and then serviced to make it look genuine.reps normally cover 40-50.00 miles a year you don't say what year the car is.you dont mention what you are paying for the car this would give guide aswell

be careful?

From what you describe I would pass on this one.

DPF failure on a car with just 72K points to a lot of town driving - as do the worn seats, lots of short journeys, a reps car that has spent most of it’s life on the motorway would not have the worn seats or the DPF failure.

Parking sensors are approx £80 each from Škoda IIRC - then it would need to be colour coded, unless the car is black?

Service is around £220, cam belt approx. £300.

If it is the Arnold Clark one then google their name as they have MANY unsatisfied customers out there.

Steer clear.

Big service gap. Worn seats??

Sounds like a headache.

The most i was worried abt was the only 2 advisories:

1. TPMS lamp on

2. EML lamp on

No, I think everyone's over-reacting. You don't do 72K in 3 years by driving around town! It says FULL Skoda service history, so just push them on what "full" exactly means. The seats aren't worn according to the pictures - they look like mine did when I bought the car at 57K miles; just a bit shiny and creased. This is normal if a fat arse has been sitting on it for 3 years.

If the car drives great, as you say, and if you can get the right answers and a sweet deal (ALWAYS haggle!), then I think you should get it. Buying a used car is ALWAYS a gamble; this doesn't seem any more of a gamble than most - it's not a 1970s Jag, fer chrissakes.

I've just gone from a 170 to a 140 today. Only driven it home and to the petrol station so far, but seems plenty powerful enough to me. I'm doing a run into London tomorrow so I'll get some motorway miles down as well to see the difference.

CO2 is 158 for the 140 DSG against 159 for the 170 DSG so the tax is the same for both. MPG is listed as 47.9 v 47.1 in the official figures.

It says FULL Skoda service history, so just push them on what "full" exactly means.

But then the OP has clearly stated that it has missed a service and not had the cam belt changed, so the ‘full Škoda service history’ is to be taken with a (large) pinch of salt IMO.

As for not being able to do 75K by doing town driving, sorry but that is just soooo wrong.

75K over 3 years (and this is over 3 ½ years old) equates to just 100 miles per day for 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, which is hardly a travelling rep sort of mileage, I would imagine most (local) taxi drivers do much more than that per day.

Wer u get the figures from!

I knew i shud never trust Parkers!

Out of the brochure I got when buying mine. I've compared the DSG figures for both engines, Parkers might be doing 140DSG to 170Manual?

Cheers Spence!

I used to hog loads of car brochures for cars i might buy in the future.

But since moved house have thrown thm away :-(

Thy might like gold dust whn it comes to buying used for car info!

Thks again!

PS: How do u spot or know if a Skoda has the self-park option installed?

there is button by the g/shift and it will have a sensors on top of the front wheel arch both sides.
