Show me your MK2 roof bars - Hatch - What have you got ?

Featured Replies

As the title I'm looking for images of the MK2 hatch, ideally VRS with roof bars fitted. Looking at getting some for moving my mountain bike around and wanted something that was asthetically pleasing as well as functional. Also does the method of mounting damage the paintwork as the clamp style that hooks over the edge of the roof looks like it has potential to damage the paint. I know there are many types available from the likes of thule, but I want something that looks streamline and doesn't overhang the car too much

Images would be great if anyone has any, cheers.

Hey, I've got the Thule wing bar on my 10 plate octy vrs IMO they look the best. Not too sure on the whole streamline thing as the mountain bike and kayak would probably offset the bar itself. Mine come off as soon as I'm finished for the day and no damage as yet. The metal parts are covered with a thin plastic and as long as you're careful I can't see the potential for damage. Only bad point I can see is the huge cost of this setup but I suppose you buy cheap you buy twice! I'm very happy with them and do look a little more " bling " than the standard ones- as far as roof bars can be! Sorry no pics but I'm so glad I never went for the halfrauds specials!!!

I've got the Thule aero bars for mine, which I use with two 591 (I think bike carriers) for my hatch. Sorry no images....

Top quality products, but you do need to take care when putting the roof bars on and off, since the locating pins that sit up into the roof can catch the paint work is you don't loosen them enough when installing or removing.

I don't leave mine on all the time, as the whistle and adverse effects on fuel economy build up on a 90 mile daily commute.

Once setup for the car, the only takes 10 minutes to get everything on.

I did look at getting a more streamlined set of bars last year, but the weather meant it wasn't worth it.

Might be worth looking at these whispbars, I like the lower profile to the roof, but obviously will mean its easier to damage the roof when loading things on.

I would look at them again, but my Octy is getting a bit long in the tooth and I'm unlikely to get another one the same.

What model Thule are they ? plus how much would you be looking for them ? cheers

Not sure on price, PM me a sensible offer and I'll look into postage charges for them.

I have a set of whipbars on my estate and they are very very low profile. Possibly just an inch of clearance. Can just push a bungee cord through and have scratched the roof a couple of times. I like them, just have to be careful.

Not a hatch or VRs. Prorack Whispbars

this is the best (and only pic) i have of my roofbars.

they have never caused any damage to the roof and are solid as a rock even with 3 bikes on.

these are the old style feet now the newer models come with a special tightening tool to make sure you set them correctly, the bike carriers are the thule freeride 530s these have now been replaced with 532s

i bought mine from here

the ones vrsy have are probably the same as these they should be a good buy depending on the price as new ones are quite expensive now!

Im fairly certain these ones here are mine

I think the newer versions came with a lock & key

@ furn, zooming in on yours, they do look very similar to what I have. Do yours have the nipple that connects under the roof/above the door?

yes ive just looked back through the thread and seen the pic yours look exactly the same as mine with a little nipple on them.

mine have locks on them because i bought them extra just for some more security. i bought a full set of matching locks for the bars and the bike carriers one key fits them all, so no messing
