Dealer Greedy?

Featured Replies

After my last service which was at 45,000km, I noticed that he dealer had endorsed the service sticker on windscreen as requiring the next service at 50,000km rather than 60,000km as stated in the handbook. I queried this issue with the service manager and he quite honestly told me it was company policy to shorten the service intervals to increase dealer profit. I've now noticed (as I approach 50,000km) the MFD blinking furiously at start-up telling me I have 400km and 100 days to get a service. Clearly the dealer has also manipulated the MFD to cause this alert as it was not a feature previously.

My question is: Can I ignore the MFD and motor on til I reach my "normal" service point or will the car self destruct and send me to pauper's heaven? I haven't challenged the dealer yet as the MFD flashing has just started.

Sounds like they are robbing you blind- is there a local trading standards or similar who could get involved?

Yes you can ignore the MFD and motor on. Eventully it will change to a Service Now message. There's a simple way to reset the service indicator holding down a few buttons, but it's so simple I can't remember it - google might help. It will however reset it back to 15,000 km or 370 days so that to will be wrong.

Either the dealer or someone with VCDS can add on the correct mileage back on exactly to what it should be.
