How often should a Skoda facelift 2010 fabia TSI be serviced?

Featured Replies

How often should a skoda fabia TSI be serviced if it is on a variable service ??

Every year or 10k miles.

They don't have an oil sensor so there is no variable servicing like the Yeti/Octy etc... it's fixed at 12 months/10k miles.

^^ what Richard says, every year at least as these are quite a specialist engine. I change the oil in ours twice per year.

I think the OP has a 1.2, not the twincharged version James, judging by his siggy.

I am sure a 12 month interval will be fine then, I have been changing ours as it has had a bit of track use too.

If it is out of Warranty get it serviced as often as you like, depending on if you check and do anything yourself.

The Skoda Schedule Oil & Filter change might be 9400 (10,000) miles or annual,

but get that done to suit how many miles you do annually,

Other things like Brake Fluid Changes are advised first at 3 years then each 2 years etc,

spark plugs possibly at 40,000 miles.

Its all about your car and use really.  ?? How many miles at now, at 3 years old,

and what servicing done up to now maters.

Getting Wheels removed, Brake Shoes & Pads Checked, Cambelt, Water Pump  etc.  Mileage/use dependant.

ok here what is going on......the 1st variable service at 9270 miles  done april last year (2012)  .....   dealers service stamp on the book says next service at 27961 or april 2014...........at the moment mileage is 15890 miles, and starting from about a week ago maxidot is saying at present 7 days to service ,could that be right??

Yes,

because the car never changed officially with Skoda to Flexible (Variable) Oil changes to the ones built on 2012.

They maybe put in Longlife Oil, it does not really mean the car is Code Q16 Variable Servicing.

You can reset or have the Maxidot reset if you want, but unless you have had the Servicing done best start from where you know.

If your Mileage is around 10,000 miles a year or less you are maybe as well with annual Oil & Filter Changes,

& Servicing/Maintenance as required.

Our 61 plate is on variable.  It was a late 2011 build, dealer demo car, and we changed it to variable after the first 20K service and does about 20K miles between services,  now done almost 50k.  Probably put in about 5 litres of oil in top up between variable services.

What i am really asking is that a variable service is also determined by the driving style mileage that could override the miles or timeframe of a scheduled service.

And that frequent starting and stoping of  a car plus annual low mileage in a year would bring on a earlier service warning by the cars computer system even though you have a sticker saying that your mext service is on so many miles and/or in 2 years.

Any VAG people  to confirm this????

Flexible/Variable Servicing does rely on how the vehicle is being used.

Sensors are monitoring the Oil/Filter.

The 'sticker' is just that,

as is someone writing a Date in a Service book.

the Technician might not have reset the Service Indicator or been able to set it to Variable.

**The Maxidot may not be set for showing Flexible (Variable Servicing and is showing the Fixed Service Interval,

When it was reset at the Service as the Service Oil Change was done,

it was for 9400 miles and 372 Days as i posted a picture of in post # 8    ****

!!!!!!

maybe Reset it yourself on Maxidot and see what comes up,

ie

how many miles and days to the next service.!

The Service Indicator may need resetting,

Equally the Engine might need an Oil and Filter Change.

3 years old and only one Service having been done, it might benefit from getting an Oil and Filter Change, Fluids checked etc,

Brake Fluid Changed.

Cars with Engines that are suitable for Flexible/Variable OIl & Filter changes do vary when the car is due for a Service, well actually an Oil Change.

???
Is there an Invoice saying what oil was put in at the First Service, ie showing that it was Long Life Oil?

Maybe Call the Garage that did the Oil & Filter change and Service and ask them.

Ask what they did?

george

PS, sorry for the poor picture.

Look at the bottom left of the Information /Spec page of the cars 'Service Book' and see the code for your Engine and if Fixed or Flexible Servicing.

....actually i supplied my own long life oil Castrol Edge Professional to them wasnt a problem.

...just had a look at the service book regarding 1st service thre is a YES tick in oil chage and a yes tick in the box where it says that oil used for variable service QG1.

Edited by john123

QG1 , QG2 is Fixed Service Code for a 2010 car,  in the Service Book. Bottom Left Corner.

QG16 is Variable Servicing.

Someone can say if they were designated QG16 between 2010- 2012 on the 1.2 TSI.

I only know of the 'Year 2012 Skodas'  having that then show in the Service Book, they were available late 2011,

changed by Skoda but it was the same engine without internal changes.

The VW's 1.2 tsi engines were already QG16 i believe. Same Engine.

If you asked for that at the garage, then thats your choice, you are hardly going to do any damage.

If you know they did the car only a few thousand miles ago with your Castrol Edge then run it as long as you like.

I take it the Castrol Edge was to Spec 'VW 504'. (VW 507)   Suitable for Servicing to  QG16

& Not 'VW 502' suitable for QG 1 & QG 2

Just reset your Service Indicator for another 372 Days if that is just what it can do.

Or can you reset, and get it to show more than 9,400 miles/372 Days. ?

Hi George if the skoda dealer had coded it to fied service intervals than the warnig service message in the white  maxidot would have gone off in april  (as per 365 days or 1 year ) and not now 19 months wich is like 570 days later .

Suprised no one else has had this problem, can it just be me??

Edited by john123

If QG1 means Variable Servicing on your car then thats fine.

Is it a Problem,

if it says you need 'servicing in 7 days' and it had an Oil & Filter change with Long Life Oil and it says you need it doing

570 days later, then you do that or ignore as you wish.

It does not show 365 days on 'Fixed servicing' when you reset, it Shows 1 year and 1 week, 372 days.

george

Reading page 18, of the Fabia Owners Manual 2010.

"The Data displayed is the same after resetting the display with flexible service intervals (QG1) using the reset button

as that for a vehicle with fixed service intervals (QG2)

We therefore recommend having the Service Interval Display reset only by an authorised Skoda Service Partner

who is familiar with the procedure for resetting the display with a vehicle system tester."

Found this on a another tread:

Can anyone confirm if this is actual :

Correction if I may.

If you are on 'flexible service' then, after an initial c. 500 mile learning period, the Vehicle Status display shows around 18,600 miles/730 days to next service and counts down from there.
This figure of 18,600 is the 'variable' element as it is governed by journey type, vehicle usage, oil quality etc. It can be as low as 12,000 miles IIRC

Basically if anyone can answer me with a YES or NO if the variable service is determined by the cars  engine sensors or is it fixed by km/days or whatever comes first?

Edited by john123

John123, from what you say, you had service one in Apr 12 at 9000 odd miles (but the car was 18 months old+?).

This would fit with variable servicing, as it could have been at the two year point, but was way over 10,000 miles/12 months (for the time component).

It is now, some 18 months later, asking for another service, with only 6-7000 miles on the clock, so doesn't really fit with the fixed parameters, but could fit with the variable.  It may think you need to have a service because of the mileage you drive - that's fairly low mileage.

OR

It's a glitch.  Either way, going to the (hopefully friendly) dealer and asking to sort it would, at worst, result in a charge for a minor service and peace of mind.

And George will probably now tell you it's only an oil change, not a "service" so why not do it yourself.

Had a look in the maxidot settings -service intervals-info-reset.

Info shows SERVICE IN  7891(i asssume these are the remaining miles or the driving miles to be driven after the last service) miles  OR IN 4 DAYS.

Wonder if i reset it how many days would the countdown be again.

Why not just try and set it & see.?

& yes i will say an Oil & Filter change is an Oil Change Service.

Proper Servicing & Maintenance or at least checking of the vehicle will need doing, Pre Winter Checks never go wrong.

My 1.2Tsi Limited edition estate built Sept 2013 arrived from the factory set to QG1, variable servicing, with indicator showing 18700 / 730 days to first service confirming this.

I have looked under the sump of a number of 1.2Tsi (2013) models and they all have the oil sensor fitted. (connector and wiring clearly visible near the sump plug)

Case solved and for any others that might come across something similiar here you go:

-Just wante to let everyone know that when you have the variable service interval, your ,-driving style, cold starts and small journeys go throught the car computer and can alter and actually change bring forwars your  time of service even though you have a dealer sticker saying in 2 years and or XXXXX mileage.
