Turbo advice - to hybrid or not?

Featured Replies

Right then :)

I'm on the hunt for a new turbo

I need some advice of where to go

At the moment I'm not too fussed on getting a hybrid, if one comes along at a good price I will

It's more to replace the KKK with a garrett whether it be the gt1749va or gt1749vb (I know how rare they are at the mo)

Advice/help would be appreciated

Cheers

Budget? Support mods for hybrid if any?

Egr delete in the next few weeks

Can't afford FMIC at the min so probably looking at a garrett pd130 or pd150

Saved about £400 so far but hopefully getting a bonus in march

If you're gonna do it, do it properly ;)

Well factor in the cost of a remap and thats most of your budget gone then.

I would unless you have 1k+

Source a standard turbo and replace.

I can do the remap bit myself :)

+ insurance :( Unless you can do that yourself too

Haha I wish!

Looking like going down the pd130 garrett route so far

Just a bit stronger :)

You can get a pd150 new for £800 off darkside developments brand new

Would anyone buy a second hand garrett pd130 out of interest?

At that price you may aswell get the Turbo dynamics MDX376 - currently on offer at £900!

You could map it on a conservative, low torque map with 190+ hp. This could run on the stock SMIC & clutch with the knowledge you could push the turbo to 220hp+ if desired at a later date when/if supporting mods are in place.

dp

But then its not a Darkside Development PD150 turbo :p

Brand new garret pd150 bought for £540 2 months ago, was cheaper than any 130 we could source!

Those members that have gone hybrid, would you say it's actually worth it?

Define "worth it"

Was it worth it is sadly subjective to the end user. Mine was, and still is. I have spent alot of money on the Ibiza and it is over all very quick for what it is. That said, others have spent alot more. At what point do you draw the line?

With your budget you can't afford to do it (no offense) so why even try? Just replace the turbo for maybe like above at best a PD150 version and be happy with a real world 180bhp.

No offense taken as it wasn't me that made the 'worth it' comment above ;)

Hopefully meeting up with a forum member with hybrid tomorrow night so will let you know!

Couldn't have put it better myself. Some people would be better just getting a quicker car out the box. Often the same people that expect to put doubt the power through the car and nothing to brake or play up. For me though, the grin on my face everytime I drive it says to me it's worth it! :D

I didn't have much time to expand on my 'worth it' post as I was in work.

I can totally see the point in going hybrid if for example your turbo has gone POP as the outlay for a new turbo is a substantial amount in the first place there for its got to be worth going that bit extra.

The reason I asked because I am extremely interested in going hybrid on my car, Dirty Torque Developments is just down the road from me!. But I'd just hate to think that spending that sheer amount of money then to be disappointed. Do you ever get used to the power?

I don't really drive my car hard or anything therefore when I put my foot down it brings a smile to my face and thats only remapped. Yet I ride my GSXR600, I go out on that and accelerate hard and yes its fast but it doesn't really excite me! lol! Which is why I'm considering selling the gsxr and spending it on the Fabia! I don't want to sell my bike and do all that work then thing 'DAFUQ HAVE I DONE?!' If that makes sense :)

I am meeting up with Dark Hero in a couple of months who is doing my dash conversion, he has kindly offered to take me for a spin in his car so I can see what its all about :)

As per my siggy, I also own a Gixxer 6 and sorry but if that doesnt excite you, there is no way on gods green earth a 1,300KG 4,500rpm Fabia diesel hatchback will, ever.

Sorry.

Sorry.

But I love driving the car! Mines a K3 so essentially the same as yours ;) The bike just needs to be rev'd hard to get it to go fast where as the Fabia delivers easy power. My mind constantly ticks over while I'm on the bike 'WHAT IF' its only done that in the last 12 months or so, never had that before and I used to have a whale of a time!

I have my pd130 for sale as I've replaced it with a 150 you have pm

Well I guess I was a little harsh with the post, the Ibiza is great fun as is the Fabia to a lesser degree.

They are a different kettle of fish I guess. I enjoy being out on the bike, its of course easier and safer to actually go faster in the car.

Lazy speed can be had from a hybrid, but to go as fast as it "can" go it still needs to see nearer 5k

I might sell the bike in a few months as hardly get time to use it, I wont be selling either the Ibiza or Fabia hybrids, so maybe.. maybe your right!

I always thought the K3 was alot lighter lol.
