Struggling with Coming/Leaving Home lights

Featured Replies

Hey folks.

Been playing with the new car.

It's a Pre-FL with a Rain/light sensor but no auto light switch FYI.

I have gone through all the settings and turned them on.

I tried it at first with the setting to do with personalisation set to light sensor. This did nothing. Set it to the other setting and now when I unlock the car the lights come on. I used the torch on my phone and the lights down come on when I shine the torch at the sensor.

That's all good but what I'm struggling with is the coming home bit. If I'm in the car and have the lights on do I need to leave them on for the lights to give the coming home setting? If I turn them off manually they don't come on when I turn the ignition off or open the door.

Thanks for your help.

Phil

P.s. Does anyone know why when I've enabled locking confirm on the horn that I get a very weak little chirp that it barely audible? The alarm works and gives off the proper sound (tested while enabling rain-closing windows and set it off by accident).

I think you have to leave the lights on.

You do need to leave the lights in the on position. In the side light position they stay on when you remove the key but in the full lights position they extinguish. If not, there is a setting in vcds to toggle side lights on/off with the key removed and the lightswitch in the on position iirc. Also you may need to flick the high beam stalk after removing the key to activate the coming home function.

The lock / unlock chirp comes from the alarm siren not the horn.

i was just messing with mine last week 06vrs with no rain/light sensor and no auto headlights and to get the leaving home lights to work you had leave the headlights in the on position when you exit the car they went out approx 30secs after locking the car.

also the warning buzzer doesnt work when the lights are left on but when left in sidelight position the buzzer would sound.

I'll have to check this setting with mine, as I don't currently have CH/LH active, but I'm not sure at all that the light switch needs to be left in the 'on' position.

With the coding in place, and with the light sensor, the car is able to detect when to use the CH lighting, regardless of light switch position.

If you have the light sensor and auto-light switch, you have to leave the switch in auto for CL/LH to work. No other setting does the job.

If you have the light sensor already, fitting the switch takes about half an hour......(less if the right loom is already in there - 5 minutes, if that!) is well worth it and solves all this faffing around. :) :)

Don't agree I'm afraid, as I don't have the auto light switch in mine and CH/LH has worked perfectly fine without leaving the light switch in a set position. Might just be that the coding required is different, depending on whether the auto light switch is fitted or not.

I have the same setup as Phil does now, and I don't intend on fitting an auto light switch as I don't want it :)

So it works in the 'off' position too?

Yes, because it relies on the light sensor to know when to activate them. But as I say, for those with auto lights as well, I can understand the logic of needing the leave the switch in the 'auto' position, so that the light sensor is utilised.

Thanks guys.

I tried the suggestions and left the switch in the on position. They stayed on and went off about 30-40 seconds later.

I thought they would work as per what you are saying Steve that you didn't need to manually instigate them and it would use the light sensor.

That's what threw me that using the setting to use the light sensor did nothing but changing to the other option (personalisation I think?) then they work as above.

I have also read about using the fog lights for this function. Is that right?

Oh and Steve definitely still interested in that auto light switch if you're not going to use it :)

Will bring some cash with me to the malthouse meet.

Phil

The idea behind having to leave the light switch in a certain position is that it makes it easier for the driver to decide whether they want to utilise the feature or quickly disable it before exiting the vehicle.

I seem to remember reading about CH/LH on fogs, it was either a FL thing or if there were factory xenons fitted. Otherwise its not selectable in VCDS.

Mike

Mines a FL controller and I had CH fogs activated when I had my HiDs coded. (Just CH work as I have no light sensor, etc).

My next door neighbour had factory xenons on his Golf GTI and they are the CH/LH lights, which I can't imagine does them much good........

Correct, on pre-FL controllers you can't code the front foglights for CH/LH. Shame, as I'd have them activated otherwise :(

Buggar. That would have been nice.

Oh well!

I think I have it worked out now. I would still prefer how it would work with an Auto switch so if you can't find yours for me Steve then I'll grab one off ebay or something.

Someone at work also has a Golf GTI with xenons that work as the CH/LH lights.

Will check for you later today Phil.

I re-coded my LH to 60 secs, otherwise they were going out just as I was putting the key in the ignition. )

Same here. I disabled the CH/LH as they shone straight into my neighbours house

That wouldn't affect me; I was bothered about increased wear on the xenon ballasts.

Yeh if I end up fitting a HID kit then I will turn them off I think. What K have you gone for? I'm thinking 4300K or 5000K. Don't like blue/purple lights!

Phil

4300, closest to OEM iirc

I fitted 35w 4300k to mine. Very nice. :)

Yeh think I will go along with the 4300Ks as they look more OEM than any of the others. Plus with the headlamp washers even more OEM looking.
