Rear washer pipe

Featured Replies

Is this the "join" i've read about which can cause problems?

I get nothing from my rear washer but the pump does go when i push the stalk in. Does it just pull apart to check it's not blocked or anything?

Check the rear nozzle is clear as well. Mine has blocked several times and been OK as it can be after using copper wire to clear it..

It'll be the nozzle on the wiper arm.

Lift the cap (it hinges at it's thinnest point) to reveal the nozzle and it simply pulls off (push fit).

Activate the rear wash and if you get a stream of water up in the air you can pin point the nozzle being the problem.

Mine is currently in the kitchen submerged in a glass of boiling hot water and white vinegar :giggle:

tbh the kink looks worse in the picture than it really is.

I've put a pin down the jets to try and clear them, is this enough or do i need to remove it?

I looked at removing the plastic cover but couldnt figure out how to lift it up, didnt want to budge when i tried moving it

i'll give it a go tomorrow and see how i get on.

Stood behind the car the cap hinges to the right. It hinges where the cap meets the wiper arm.

You can get your fingers under the cap to the left.

Pulling it doesn't feel right, as though it's going to break, but it does eventually release.

As it's cold outside I'll gurantree when it does go it'll hurt :giggle:

lol

I know what you mean about where it hinges and it does feel like it will break/isnt ment to hinge but i'll give it a go tomorrow

Warm the cap with some hot water before trying to lever it. It will reduce the chance of it getting damaged

got it off, as you all said. bit of force and it popped off fine lol

Tried the washer again and water went up in the air so i know there isnt a leak and its just blocked here :)

Now to soak it :)

As mentioned, mine was in soak overnight in vinegar, just took it out now and gave it a good blow. Clean as a whistle.

Went outside to put it back on and noticed quite a ot of corrosion around the metal nipple which the nozzle pushes onto.

I think this has been blocking the jets.

Gave it a clean and a squirt of WD40 so we'll see how long it takes to block this time!

soaked mine and gave it a blast with the shower too (through the ends it squirts out of). It seems to have a very poor reach, is this just how it works or might i have put it back on wrong?

the car is going into the dealer in a couple weeks for a new airbag in the drivers seat so i'll get one ordered to pick up with i pick the car up

The problem I found is that as soon as you use a pin in an attemp to align the nozzles its never the same again.

The easiest way to adjust the nozzles is to remove the big black pastic cover. This allows you enough leverage in the nozzles with the pin.

The thing is, once you finally get the right adjustment, when you replace the cap the stream of water no longer passes through the holes on the cap!!

Grrr.

Haha, that was my fear Mike, I almost bought a new nozzle thinking to myself "I wonder if they will be set-up from new, plug and play if you like?"

I reckon I used more than £6's of screen wash trying to align the bloody nozzles.

I could either get 100% of the output to hit the rear screen immediately adjacent to the wipers pivot or the only other option was to get 100% of the water over the roof and onto the windscreen!

I gave up in the end. When it was in for service I asked the dealer to take a look at it. It was no different so even he must have struggled :giggle:

Luckily I don't use the wash function very often. The rear screen doesn't get very dirty on my hatch (unlike the wife's estate) so I only use it once in a blue moon to keep the jets free and prevent a boot full of washer fluid!
