Brake issues

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 200 reg skoda fabia 1.4 MPI, Just recently I've been having some brake issues, which seems to be the wheels are locking under heavy braking rather than triggering the ABS. Just before I take it in to local garage to get it checked over, I just wondered if there was anything I could check my self before hand to try and solve the problem.

I dont appear to have any warning lights on and everything else is pretty normal. The only other thing that could be linked is there is sometimes a slight hiss from the brake pedal when depressed.

Anyway thanks in advance for any advice,

Adrian

Are you certain it has ABS?

I ran a 1.4mpi for several years and with the rear brakes being drums, I'm not sure it had ABS.

I was under the assumption that now days all cars pretty much had ABS. I could be wrong though. Any idea how to check?

Thanks for the reply :)

Switch the ignition and see if there is an ABS light on the dash that follows a sequence, or look for an ABS valve block at the passenger side rear of the engine compartment.

Just checked in the book, and just remembered about the yellow ABS light. that comes on when ignition is turned on but then goes off again, which is normal behaviour. Would it go off if the ABS fuse had blown? Or i am just being hopeful of a simple, quick fix?

Cheers

My mpi in Classic trim is a Y reg and hasn't got ABS. It was available as an option so check your car actually has ABS.

Look under the boot carpet for a sticker with codes on. If you see the code 1AR then it has ABS. If not then it doesn't.
