glove box handle snapped - no access to fuel pump relay?

Featured Replies

Hi

My gf's 1.4 comfort seems to have a fuel pump relay problem so I have bought a new one and looked around but can't see where the relays are. I thought it would be by the OBD/VAGCOM socket on the drivers side but no its just a plastic surround. So i guess it's behind the glove box somewhere (please correct me if I am wrong) so this leads me onto my other problem - the glove box handle has snapped clean off!

Unfortunate timing but the thing was struggling to open anyway and guessed maybe something had stretched but on Friday my gf said she had snapped it off. I have very little access to the plastic handle hinge inside and it needs to come towards me so seems like it isn't an option, especially considering how much force it usually needed to open. I popped off the side piece (that sits adjacent to the door when it is shut) and think I can poke something in there but have not yet had any luck.

Has any had this problem before and got around it? can't find anything online that gives me clear solution.

Thanks in advance.

The relay's are behind the drivers side facia/fuse area, the fuel pump relay may be at the back of the engine bay - There is only a pollen filter behind the glove box.

DB.

Ok well I must have missed that, at least that solves that problem.

Any ideas how to get this damn glove box open?

Unless you can grab the remnants of the mech you'll have to "jemmy" it. Preferably starting out with care and patience... I usually find patience retreats allowing force to grow. :)

Ha ha yeah I agree, I had to walk away from it last night or some other chunk of plastic was going to come flying off! I suppose a replacement from the scrap yard might be on option if it gets too damaged.

Look for screws on underside of glovebox surround; if loosened these will help the wiggle and bending at the top edge.

Attempted this again today, got it off fairly quickly. Basically you don't need to take off any screws just snap the centre black plastic piece that would sit behind the handle. It's only there to hide the mechanism/stop stuff catching but you can then get pliers on it. Unfortunately even after prying the glove box lid open (which was glued) the mechanism was bust and to save messing around with glue and make do bits I'm just going to spend a tenner at the scrap heap and replace it.
