Noise from o/s/f - any ideas?

Featured Replies

Car is on ap coilovers, getting a clunking noise now and again when going over rough roads...its very loud can't work out what it is as i've had a good look at the coil & strut and it looks fine.

Been doing it for a month or two, drove for 6 hours yesterday didn't do it once on the motorway

arb bushes? arb drop link? may need shortened links due to being lowered?

does it sound like a clunking sound, ( running a bar over the spring). when turning the wheels, could be the top mount bush, get someone to put their hand on the mount and turn, when we had the car up on off the floor no sound but under weight it clunks, or it might be the drop links.

ARB smacking the drive shaft?

does sound like drop links as i loosened mine and couldn't tighten back up in fear of damaging the torx thing as i cracked it lastweek.

Righto, well when it was lowered they said normal drop links fine as the AP are basically weitecs and they put the hole in the right place!

Yeah sounds like a clunk noise...not turning wheels though just when going over bumps.

Its hard to pin point where it is on the inside of the cab, sounds like the floor but then again could be topmount. Ill check top mounts first then look at drop links after

Thanks for advice so far :)

ah yeah could be the bushes, never thought of that! quite difficult to change? Any particular uprated ones to get if it is them?

Console bush.............which is the rear bush in the lower front wishbone

car had mot'd today and failed on nearside anti-roll bar has excessive play in a ball-joint and nearside outer front cv joint gaiter split, so changed top mount bushe, drop-link bar and cv boot and the clunking has gone, i knew top mount was worn, happy chappy no more sounds from the n/s front arch. jobs a good one.

you can grease arb bushes and it does usually stop knocking it may help in diagnosing although not good as a permanent fix. I seem to think the powerflex bushes have had good reviews. just changing the bushes shouldnt be a hard or long job. There is a guide to changing the full arb so im sure you could use it to just change the bushes.

If it helps anyone, had drop links & arb bushes changed today (about £90 all in). Clunking has stopped (for now)

Bushes looked knackered and the drop links looked well past their best.

Mine does this too pal. And (not that it makes a difference) i have ap coilovers

I THINK on mine its a bush somewhere on the wishbone i think. Looking to get em all powerflexed
