Heater Motor Resistor Warning - Parts

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just thought I'd share a problem I encountered this weekend.

Bought a heater motor resistor from a huge parts place with "euro" in the title with the intention of changing out the old one.

Got the glove box out following the great "how to" guide on here also here; http://www.blower-motor-resistor.co.uk/skoda-fabia-blower-motor-resistor.html

Used my sausage fingers to disconnect the plug, then swear, cut, grunt and twist out the old resistor

Went to put the new one in and I could not twist it back to the right to relocate it. Gave it some proper force, still no luck.

Removed the new one again and compared to the old one. The original one, was flush along the inside of the "plastic topper" the one I bought was not and was in fact slightly raised where one of the locator lips was. Also the lip was a very very slightly different design with a little hole and friction nipple.

So lesson learnt be careful when buying non oem parts. For the sake of £5 or so I should have visited the Steelers.

The part number; 6Q0959263A was correct just the manufacture of the part was not up to par. I'll be off to try to get money back tomorrow, then straight to the dealership for an oem part.

On the plus side good practice for removing the glove box and gaining access. Also got a good view of the Re-circ motor which is next on the hit list.

Give TPS a ring if you have one local, paid just under £45 for mine, not sure what you were quoted through the dealer?

My resistor failed last week so I got on the phone to my local Skoda dealer up the road and they had one in stock, £44 inc VAT.

Went to the dealers in the end, yes price was 44 inclusive. Saw the ebay one for £15 but following my deformity experience I went for the original one.
