It had to go

Featured Replies

I said goodbye to my little vRS last week, after 14 months and 10,000 miles. It was just too thirsty for my increasingly stretched financial demands, and the oil consumption was frankly taking the whizz (I must have put about 10 litres in it, the last litre was on Xmas eve... just 7 weeks after getting it serviced).

It was great fun to drive, utterly appalling in snowy conditions where the DSG really dropped the ball, and I hope its new owner treats it well.

I've had to get a diesel. One day I hope to have another car which is fun but it's going to be a while.

sorry to hear that. guess I'm lucky, no oil usage at all, and absolutley fantastic in the snow (but i have winter tyres on...)

what are you replacing it with?

Sorry to hear that, hope you enjoy your new ride.

Can't understand people who say it's too thirsty.I can easily get mine to do 45mpg and it's only done 2500 miles.

Ok,its not a 60/70mpg small diesel, but you know this when you buy it.

I've now got a thrilling Fiesta TDCI. It's not quite the same. It's comfortable but dull.

I couldn't get the car home one day last year as the wheels kept spinning in the snow. Most other automatics let you manually select 2nd gear to start off in but not the DSG. A pity really, it was so good the rest of the time.

10 litres of oil not thirsty? Maybe if you drive an RX8 it's normal. I did know the mpg when I bought it, yes, but as I said my finances are getting tighter.

Its odd that you say that. Whilst I (a) dont want another mpg thread and ( b ) am more than happy with the car, I am somewhat sceptical about the MPG claims in general. For instance I went 'oop north' this weekend, all motorway, all clear, and kept to 70 to 75 via cruise. Air con was off. My average for there and back was 37.7mpg.

My overall average on the display is 36.6 mpg.

Ive never seen better than 42 mpg over a 70 mile run and I drove that trip like jesus.

Not a problem. Much better than the 23mpg form the subaru!

With sandles and a beard ? ;)

With his foot nailed to the accelerator perhaps?

Lol very good :) In fact it was whilst turning water into wine

Perhaps the latest engine like mine is better?

With the nature of the engine (small capacity, high state of tune) you will get big swings in the mpg.

On the run you mention if you had stuck to 65to70 your mpg could have been 45./50

I think for any given set of circumstances my mpg is about 10 better than my Octy petrol vRS,which is what I anticipated before I bought the car.

The minute you start to go over 70mph, the fuel consumption starts to increase expotentially due to wind resistance, drag etc on these Fabia's. It's pretty much the same for all Fabia's. At 65-70mph it's much much better on the Vrs I've noticed. But jolly difficult to hold her down to that speed... :giggle:

Sorry to lose you to a Ford :-(

I won't be keeping mine longer than 18 months either tho.

Good luck.

im debating at having a go in the new festa myself, only thing putting me off is i love this dsg

I stick to 60-65 on long runs and easily get 48mpg on 170 mile journeys ...

Yep, as mentioned the crucial thing is speed. If you're on 2k revs in 7th gear you are using the engine as efficiently as possible, which is the downside for the VRS as it means you're doing about 50-55mph on a motorway. :wonder:

We got close to 57mpg on a 100m trip to Yorkshire by 'crawling along' behind lorries. It's been mentioned a lot of times before that it would have been nice to have a higher 7th gear and really a low one is a bit pointless as 5th is all you need for performance. But we still love it and 7th gear is nice and responsive for lazy driving!

It's not a problem as the car was bought for fun rather than economy. I'm off to Warwick again in a mo so will don the sandals and beard and see what I can do :)

44.9

44.9

I had an average drive home from work this morning, and got an average 45.7 on the way home :) it should do the stated 45mpg when run in :)

Mine as 24000 under its belt I should be run in. Maybe is broken lol. :)
