Sound Proofing Mod

Featured Replies

Just been and collected it from the Seat dealer...... It wasn't what i was expecting!!!!! I had a picture in my mind of a solid piece of foam that covered the top of the engine area and fitted under the plastic cover...... Don't know why

I'm just gonna go and have a look at how it fits on.

Cheers

Dave.

Ok here are some pics i just took while fitting the item to the car...... It was starting to get a little dark down the side of the house and i couldn't be bothered to mess about finding the digital camera so the pics are off my phone.... Hence the not so crystal clear images.

1. The sound-proofing before being fitted.

2. The engine in all it's naked glory with the engine cover removed. :o

3. The sound proofing fitted around the engine.

Hope this helps chaps & chapettes.

That's the one - looks like it should be cheaper doesn't it, but it does mute by a few dB :D

I was expecting something different also....lol

I know you are

I know you are £30 lighter but are you £30 quieter..???

My Seat dealer charged me £39 inc. VAT

It sounds a little quiter when idling...... Not actually had a run out in the car since fitting it....... I'm also going to take the engine cover back off again tomorrow and make sure the sound proofing is fitted properly as after looking at the photos i think i might be able to get it to fit a little more snuggly...... I'll report back tomorrow.

Also someone a few posts back said that their Furby already had the sound proofing fitted. The engine cover itself does come with some sound proofing fitted on it's underside but as you can see from the pics this is a differant kettle of fish altogether.

Yeah, that was me, it's not exactly like what's shown in your photos though.

What I've got is a piece of foam sound proofing like yours running along the back of the cam cover

(nearest the firewall) but nothing round the sides or front ???

And of course the engine cover's there as well with it's sound proofing. :D

Outstanding. I see exactly what it does and wher it goes now.

I'll have a looky to make sure I don't already have this fitted and if not get one ordered.

My car is fine at cruising speed but a bit clacky at idle, especially when cold for my liking.

My missus' HDi is quieter, albeit you feel more vibration from that one than the PD.

Just been for a run out to the next Motorway jcn and back and it really is quieter..... I was doing around 70 and the engine noise was less than the road noise!!! Even when moving away from junctions the noise is less than it was..... Worth the money for me.

Dammit I want one..... :)

Fitted today, can't say I've really noticed a difference?

Should I try for a re-shuffle  tomorrow?

All it does is mute the sharpest clatter noises, it hasn't got much more effect than that.

Soundproofing the rest of the car mutes the whole noise floor down a little which is overall more effective, but it adds weight (a bit) and it is a bit expensive (depends on whether you DIY etc)

Mine's always running as naked as that. Not had an engine cover for a long time and I definitely wouldn't use one of those covers. :) Maximum clattering.

Well, thanks all for the informative postings (especially the pictures) :)

I have a friend who is soon to leave the SEAT company, but luckily he has had time buying this mod for me. Soon I will be able to enjoy the effect

When stood idling i don't really notice a difference....... The big difference comes when actually driving and when cruising at speed....... The engine noise is noticeably quieter with the sound proofing.

I did have a couple of attempts at getting the foam to sit properly around the engine so you could always have another check to make sure it's fitted snugly all round.

When I am doing 70mph the only thing I hear is the faint sound of rushing wind. It's quiet as a mouse!
