Carbon fibre bonnets

smudger is going to see a company about bonnets.any interest in octy and furby? would need 10 positives on each bonnet to get go ahead.will be

Would this be a full bonnet or just a skin for the original?

Both. Skin would be cheaper, but looking at doing the inner out of GRP to keep price down.

The Skin is ideal for Trackdays, Rallying etc, where the "full" bonnet can also be used on Trackdays etc but will be a little bit heavyier.

Smudger is their on Wed so needs to know over this bank holiday weekend to see if its worth while buying a Furby & Octy Bonnet.

Its up to you lot now. If you want high quality bonnets at a decent price, made in England then say so.

Oh, whilst he's their he will take pics of process and get weight of cloth, resin's used and whether using "pre-preg" will make it cost too much.

Carbon fibre bonnets??? On Skodas!!!

Don't you think that's a bit too 'Max Power'?

Of course, it's your car, and if you want one, go for it.

But if your on a trackday and you want to save weight! Just think of a bonnet less than a 1/3 of the standard weight.

Is there a CSL type carbon fibre roof too ? ;) My Estate has a really long roof so I reckon I could save loads of weight there ;)

Seriously though, I reckon you could save more weight on a track day by taking out the seats and spare wheel etc.

Sorry to dig an old thread up but,

Just been speaking to a guy who does carbon bonnets

He could do them for the Octavia, but it would require a new mould (which costs around

I have a CF bonnet coming from Germany for £340. :D Shall have to wait until its on the car though, :D Found someone who can do a full WRC style wide arch CF kit. ;)

It will be a perfect copy of a Fabia bonnet, so I should be able to secure the mechanism and hinges off my current bonnet on to it, and it will be as normal. Don't really want pins - think they look gash!

As long as you are confident that the bonding process will hold the catch in place at speed.

You will be amazed how much a CF bonnet moves at motorway speeds:eek:

I had one fitted to my Honda Prelude and it freaked me out when at speed so much that I fitted bonnet pins for peace of mind.

Talk about nervous when having to drill holes in my £450 carbon bonnet for the pins!!!

I bought mine from the US but not sure if the Octy is released across there?

Did this Thread ever get anywhere??

I quite fancy a carbon bonnet for my Octy....

Same here, preferably a silver carbon fiber one. I'll even go for a trunk if they offer it too.

I would be interested at the right price! Keep me posted!

Well, I've been running said bonnet for around 2 years. It is SOOOOO light it is untrue! Around 5kg, and thats with a layer of primer, and a full spray too. :) Stock furby bonnet weighs well over 15kg I reckon. Most people don't know mine is carbon fibre as I went for the sleeper look and had it painted the same colour as the car.

I have never approached the chap who did mine but in theory I could get them in for around the same price I paid? They come with the stock bolt holes in the right places too, for the bonnet hinges and the grille. Only thing perhaps might need modding a bit is the bonnet pin / (bonnet lifter ;)) bracket on the bonnet. I did a little mod to mine to get it to work.

It's expensive, but to knock around 15kg off the front end of the car? That's good! ;)

Any chance of looking into it for us then??

I am sure we could sort out some beer tokens for doing the hard work......

Well, it would be a fabia only thing as he already has the moulds for the fabia bonnet. It costs a lot sadly to make a mould for a car. He only made a fabia mould for his own racecar, but thats for our benefit too, potentially. (Well, already is for me :D)

Oh well............
