I'm currently having an issue with the passenger electric window. Got in the car earlier, put the window down a bit and all was fine. Got to my destination, put the window up, still fine but then a minute later, i heard what sounded like a stone hitting the side of the car. Couldn't see one, so thought nothing of it but then when i went back to the car and tried putting the window down, there was a crunch noise and the window just slowly slid down. I can hear the motor whirring but with a crunching noise. I managed to pull the window up by hand but it won't stay up. Does this sound like the window has cracked/smashed inside the door panel or could it be dirt/grit has pushed the window off the regulator (or whatever it's called)??

Wire's broken. Easiest way is to replace the whole lot, it comes as one piece including the inner door skin. You can get the replacement wires but I believe they can be a pain to fit. Jam the window up until you have everything to do the job.

I've jammed it and put cardboard and black bag over the window for now. Sorry but what do you mean by the wire?? Is that something that controls the window going up and down and not electrical??

Let me know how you get on with it.

The motor, or, in some cases, a manual winder, winds a wire that moves the bar that supports the window. I've had 2 go on different cars on the passenger side. I think they last longer if they are used more. I replaced both with manual ones off scrappers.

I'll have a scout around to get an idea on prices. :)

As far as I am aware-yes. The Skoda part is so expensive as it comes as 1 piece and you just put it on, I'm not certain whether it comes with a new motor.. Don't forget you will need to reseal the panel.

Bugger!! I'd forgotten i'd need to reseal the panel. :(

Will i be able to use the same motor as it is still whirring away, so sounds like it's fine apart the the grit sound??

The motor should be fine. The gritty noise is the wire.

Cheers, so i just need to strip it down, replace the wire and rebuild, sealing while at it??

Sounds easy but i'm sure it won't be where i'm involved!!! :D :(

Apparently it's a bitch of a job, of all things I never wanted to happen to my fabia and it has happened.

That's why Skoda do the all in one part.

Have fun boys.

I don't want to spend nearly £80 on a part though, so i've ordered the eBay part and hopefully i can find a mechanic to help me out.
