I did this fix two weeks ago, it's not too bad if there's two of you.

I don't want to spend nearly £80 on a part though, so i've ordered the eBay part and hopefully i can find a mechanic to help me out.

Damn, only 1 of me here (GF won't be much help and other friends aren't very car savvy) and don't like the idea of driving 130+ miles to Stourbridge with a hole cut out so i can see the mirror and don't want to take everything off if the window is going to drop down. :(

If you can get the window up make up some wedges from wood or buy some and jam it in place. I had to make up a clear plastic sheet to fill the gap as I couldn't get the window right up while I waited for the parts to come. I have a nasty feeling that my drivers side is about to go as there are odd noises occasionally so I might be converting that to manual as well.
