Reversing sensor problem

Featured Replies

Select reverse, get the normal beep then immediatly get a higher pitched beep for a couple of seconds. After that nothing until next time ignition is switched off / on again.

Went through reversing sensors one at a time with known good spare but didn't on this occasion fix it. To be honest didn't think it would as the fault tone is different to the last 3 times this has happened.

So, whilst car in dealers for cambelt change today asked them to diagnose what might be wrong and their diagnosis is that 2 sensors are at fault (both outside ones left / right). Not sure that I believe what is being reported by the fault diagnosis. Anybody had this before and could the reversing sensor control unit be telling "lies"?

If I was to go down the route of an aftermarket kit are there ones that would use the original holes in the bumper and is there a brand you could recommend?

Thanks for your time on this.

Mine had 2 failed when the garage got it prepped to sell, and then a third failed after a couple of weeks; so quite possible I guess. Don't know how likely they are to fail at the same time, unless you've taken it to an over-enthusiastic roadside carwash and they've drowned them for you...

Mine does exactly the same thing. I'd love to know how to fix it.

So far I've only had one go myself. Used a diagonstics lead to find out which one was wrong brought a replacement and swapped it. On this occassion all 4 where still making a the ticking sound so that method of checking each one didn't help like it has in the passed. Anyway it fixed it.

At £100 a time to replace though if I was faced with replacing two I would put an after market kit in the holes.

Notably the old units have a rubber gasket at the end and the new ones have a clear gasket on, so somethings changed but not there relibilty as my dad has been through many (and on those occassions listening for the non ticking one always pin pointed the one that was not working!)

I have one here dremilled in half to see if there are obvoiuse issues.

When I got my last one done the sales guy at the garage (main dealer) laughed and said I'd be back for more (that one was on warranty).

Mine went when I got the car last year, and I had one replaced under warranty. It's now happened again and I have the same warning beeps as you describe. My Dad's £21.99 Maplin set works just fine on his Corolla, so it's a job on my list for the spring to pop in an aftermarket set.

Over the years I've had three fail - only the two on the offside interestingly (one lasted less than a year and it got swapped under parts warranty) but I've now got another failing intermittently.

I'll happily fit an aftermarket kit - IF I could find one with sensors that fit the holes neatly...

That is the problem. I've not seen anything yet that really looks "factory"; all the sensors look pretty naff and cheap.

I bought 4 used ones off a breakers on that old auction site for £15.00 posted it was a worth a gamble all 4 work and 3 are the latter B ones so into my vast box of spare bits n pieces for the Fabia and Supeb they go
