I've been reading through several threads about cleaning my EGR valve but I can't find any that specifically give instructions on how to do this on a VRS diesel. My car is running a little lumpy and MPG has been down for a while now so hopefully a clean will do the trick. Any advice or pics (even better for a novice like me) would be greatly appreciated!!

I wouldn't waste the effort. If you are removing it replace it with a Darkside delete pipe and get it mapped out. You will only be cleaning it again in another year otherwise, if not replacing it.

how much to delete and map? cant be cheap.

Nope, but neither is a new EGR valve.
