What colour is the interior illumination?

Featured Replies

This is probably going to seem like a strange question...

I currently have a MKV Jetta which is lit up red at night. Buttons, the ambient illumination (the two little LEDs in the ceiling binnacle) are all red. The gauges are lit up white.

My Superb Combi will arrive soon, but I just saw a picture where the interior of a Superb 2 is lit up green, including the buttons on the Columbus. Is this correct or has someone been fiddling?

It's not a deal killer by any means, but I'm not really a fan of green lighting.

The picture looks very much like mine, so I guess this is what you'll get!

Seat has the red look

VW has Blue

Skoda has Green

Audi.......??

I feel the same. Green feels "cold". Same with the white LED that light up the gearstick. BMW have been doing this for years and the orange is a nice warm touch.

Audi is white. You could just change all the LED's to new ones if you dont like the color.

Thanks to all respondents, I guess I'll get used to it.

In addition the two LED's that shine down from the roof are white and give a background moonlight effect in the front of the car. You only really notice it when driving in areas where there are no streetlights.

My experience (200k+ miles night driving):

Green is excellent for night driving, as you can set it at a very low level (eyes are most sensitive to green/yellow).

White is almost as good at night, but I am finding that many white-illuminated cars have still too bright lighting, even at the minimum setting. The problem is the intensity, not the colour.

Red and blue can be more tiring after a few hours, unless you can set them darker than you would green/white. But then the dashboard is not as readable.

Having said that, when you do need more light in the cabin (reading, door open, etc), nothing beats good quality warm white LEDs, or a stock bulb+cool white LED strip combo :)
