Higher Idle Revs

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I had noticed a little while back that my 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS that the standing idle revs had risen from just under 700rpm to 900rpm.

I have been to skoda and they have told me that standard idle revs are between 700 and 900 revs.

Is this correct? As I know a few people with BLT Fabia's and they all have theirs just below 700rpm..

Any help?

Cheers!

It will rev higher when it's cold and the battery needs more juice etc.

My Seat Cordoba with an ASZ engine did and any my current BXE engine does it too.

happend to me! yours could be the temp of the weather and the fact the engines cold but mine was doing it all the time when i was driving it for any length of time and my temp gauge was never correct always says cold! i replaced my temp sensor and the revs dropped back down immediately

Well it started back in september time and just seems odd considering my mate (Mike18clark) has the same car with same age but his is still just below 700rpm.

If there are no faults then it will vary when it does it depending on the temperature, battery level and electrical load.

It is also possible that it could be a dodgy temp sensor or throttle pedal.

We started ours up the other day (different engine code but similar workings) and it was fine and idled at about 900rpm straight away but the day before it idled at just over 1000rpm for a minute then it dropped back down to normal (it was colder the first time it was started and had been sat all day).

I've had the same but was down to my throttle pedal in my case. I knew because you could blip it and then it would settle and you could almost hover over the pedal like you weren't really pressing it at all, then it would just drop 100rpm or so. It was going as high as 1300 odd due to the sensor/switch or whatever its called.

Actually haven't changed it though as it was very intermittent.

A friendly engineer as Northampton Skoda advised to spray a little bit of oil (but not a lot) into the switch and that helped lube it up a bit and to be fair mine hasn't actually done it since.

(I'm not sure how clever this is but if anything all I did was reduce the friction on the side of the switch so it wasnt sticking perhaps)

If you do need to replace it its about £70

I don't believe in replacing things unless they have actually failed / causing grief, wear n tear is normal. As they say in Brum aint broke dont fix it

I might take it back to Skoda and get them to take another look (only 2 minutes walk from my house)

Cheers guys
