Wing mirror question?

Featured Replies

Hi folks

This may seem like a daft question but..

When i adjust my right mirror....the left one moves with it? but when i move the left.. it moves on its own, im assuming the switch is broken?

Just wanna make sure this isnt working as intended before i start stripping the switch out... because it looks like a big job.

Thanks

I'd say you've got a fault there, mine both work independently- as I'm sure they should.

That's normal.

There is a setting that can be chaged with VCDS of syncronised mirror adjustment.

The idea being that you adjust the right mirror to where you want, then adjust the left mirror to match and then when you move the right one (if you share a car) you make the adjustments to the right mirror and the left will then match the position of that one.

Phil

They are not broken or faulty. They are 'synchronised'. I think the idea is you set the right one first, which moves both, then the left so they are both suitably set. Then if you want to dip them, you can move them both with one knob swipe  It can be enabled/disenabled with VCDS

I'm pretty sure you can also change this via maxidot, if you have that..

Thanks for the replys, i dont have maxidot, so ill have to ask the dealer to alter the vcds as to be honest the linked mirror thing is kinda enoying as i often swing my mirrors down to look at curbs while im reverse parking put still like the other one in normal possition so i can park :D

And while we are on the subject of mirros, the driver side mirror "plastic?" has one hell of a scratch in it from the last owner dragging it along his garage wall so i was looking at changing it, seems like a simple enough job (famous last words) does anybody know of a decent supplier of these?

Dont wanna buy from the main dealer if i can avoid it.

Thx

Much like the OP, I'd thought mine had went screwy as I just noticed this on mine too!!! Was changing the mirrors back after SWMBO had been driving and feared the worst!! Funny, if its been like this since I bought it (4 months ago) I must've done the mirror adjustments differently before - think SWMBO has only driven the car a few times in those 3 months and up unitl now, I'd never noticed it!

So before I call my local dealer to try to get this 'fixed' under warranty.....this is normal then (check's calendar....nope...not April 1st).???

You know, I can see the logic in it...I think, just have always been used to independent adjustment on powered door mirrors! Is it detailed like this in the manual?? (I have consulted the manual for other things - I'll admit it.......but not for setting the mirrors truth be told....)

Definitely normal.

I find it very useful. I share the car with the other half. I am very tall and they are regualr height so I find it very quick to adjust the mirrors when switching between drivers.

Once they're syncronised you can just do one quick adjustment to change then up or down a bit.

Cheers Phil!! At 6ft, I'm not especially tall.....but my better half is 5'3".....so this feature - now that I know it exists and is meant to - may definitely prove useful!

Yep, ... did it.

I personally think this is a great feature as my wife and I share the car and she is nearly one foot shorter than me, as above though, nothing to worry about.

u said u don't have maxidot, but here is what it would look like..........
