how to check DMF

Featured Replies

My Fabia Vrs has some sort of clutch / DMF issue . When the car is cold around half way / biting point on the clutch pedal there is a very loud rattle and some vibration through the pedal. When the car warms up a little the vibration stays but the rattle quietens down alot and is barely recognisable.

Not sure if this is the start of DMF trouble or a worn release bearing.

Is there a way to check the DMF for play without removing the box?

There is no way of physically checking flywheel for play without removing gearbox

Although removal of the gearbox is always the best way, it's quite a pricey job.

I've never tried it myself but people say put the car in 4th gear (engine off, key out etc..) take the handbrake off and rock the car, you should get a feel of the flywheel this way (or somthing..?)

Good luck.

Labour for one (unless you do the job yourself, which is still time consuming)

If you hear a a strange noise like metal on metal hitting together when you accelerate or if your rolling along with your clutch down then let clutch out and hear the same noise thats DMF just had mine done

no noise clutch slipping etc when the clutch is up and driving only when pedal is pressed down..
