  • I must take you up on a couple of points here: 1. Magifoam is pH neutral, so isnt going to strip of your wax 2. There is no such thing as a touchless wash...Always follow up the snow foam with a rin

Sonax xtreme brilliant shine detailer applied which is great for repelling water and makes it easier to keep clean.

Thanks for the info, appreciated.

I assumed you photoshopped in the sun refelection?

Are people up there throwing themselves into prayer over the yellow burny thing in the sky? :giggle:

Ha no I can't win at the moment.

When its dull the midges are attacking me and when the sun shines its too hot.

I think I brought some sunshine back up the road with me but its only getting released in small doses  :giggle:

Now, that is a SNOW monster !

Oooo... I see there are blue pressure washers for girls (and yellow ones for boys) !

I'm no girl, and mine is blue. I didn't snow foam mine though, the last time I washed it. Just gave it a pre-wash with some citrus valet stuff, washed it, clayed it and then waxed it.

Need to get some more C4 to revive the roof bars, which are fading.

I'm no girl, and mine is blue...

Just kidding. In fact, I was used from past, that "blue is for boys, pink is for girls". Now days we are less formal about that colors thing.

I know :giggle: I should have put a ;) in my post.

I have noticed that since I invested in a pressure washer and have been seen snow-foaming the car several times, that a neighbour down the road has also started to do the same thing. Setting trends!

I'd be driving up offering you a couple of beers and seeing if i could get you to do it.

I find that about 70% through cleaning the car i just think o bugger it that'll do.

You're not alone with that thought. I seem to neglect the roof as it means getting something out to stand on, to clean / wax it properly.

I have a mate who "details" cars occasionally, and he spends 30+ hours sometimes, making sure everything is clean and sorted. They look amazing, but I'd be afraid to sit in it and drive it after such an effort.

My personal leaning is towards what you might call the 'mid-Wales' school of thought - a modicum of mud (a 'mudicum'?) is to be expected in a rural working environment.  M'lady says when enough is enough :dull:

Even then, a quick hour will uncover the paintwork, two hours will restore the AG Aqua Wax, and three hours (have I really nothing else to do?!) would vacuum the interior and Rain-X the side windows and mirrors.  Half an hour on the road and we're back where we started :( !!

Just bought SONAX Xtreme Protect & Shine Hybrid NPT, apparently its a perfect partner to the xtreme brilliant shine qd.

Puts a protective coat on the paintwork that should last about 6 months, and use the qd as required the rest of the time.

I snow-foamed mine on Saturday, ready for the Gaydon meet. All nice & shiny, but hit an unexpected patch of water in the torrential rain just after I set off.

The next 20 miles were in the rain, with surface water & spray for the next 100. I was surprised it still looked quite clean by the time I got to Gaydon, but I didn't fancy trying to use QD on it with all the grit stuck to the lower doors. Fortunately Muscovado seems to be a very forgiving colour

How does the paint feel after using the Sonax stuff? I've read that it makes it feel "grippy" as opposed to smooth like after waxing. Quite tempted to get some to try, but curious about these comments...

That was quick... C4 arrived already, so ought to be able to get the roof rails and trim around the mirrors and wipers back to the original dark colour. It's such good stuff. Took the faded grey trim on my Scooby back to almost black again. Expensive but worth it.

I think it depends what its going on top of as to whether it feels grippy. I haven't noticed it being grippy.

Its ability to repel water is fantastic. I put it on my shower doors too...makes them easier to keep clean.

Results of my use of the C4 compound on the Yeti yesterday...

It's the best trim restorer I've ever used, and is supposed to last for a couple of years. It was still looking "as new" after applying to my Scooby, 6 months afterwards, when I sold the car.

C4 is gtechniqs stuff?

Looks impressive.

Yes it is a gtechniq product and has very good durability.Detailing World has some glowing reports on it.

Tony

Yeah - it's pretty expensive for the tiny amount you get, but there's probably enough to do all the trim (including bumpers) from the one bottle. Needs a bit of preparation though - you have to clean the parts first, dry, then wipe over with isopropyl alcohol to remove any previous coatings etc. Then apply a very thin coating with a small micro-fibre pad (make-up remover pads, apparently - I'd not know such things *cough* )

Then wipe off any excess with a clean microfibre cloth and that's it, done. Water beads on it afterwards, and as I said, should last 2 years.

I guess Snowy is too new to worry about such products, especially if you're using a QD already. Maybe if he's fading in years to come, you could treat him to a coat...

New Sonax stuff has just arrived, I also bought chemical guys ultra concentrated citrus shampoo. I will use that to remove the qd, then apply protect & shine with new qd going on top.

Just need the weather to play nice.

Will let you know what I think of the product later.

Found a tiny stone chip on Snowy already  :(

I did see a stone hit the windscreen the other day but it didn't do any damage. However it must have bounced off the bonnet and its left a wee chip.

I've just ordered touch-up paint so will sort it as soon as it arrives.

Otherwise he's looking nice and shiny with the protect & shine now applied.

For tiny chips you could apply the paint with the end of a wooden tooth pick / cocktail stick, sometimes a brush even a tiny one can apply a tad too much paint to the chipped area. Poor Snowy.

A least you've not had someone add a dent to your Yeti, yet. On my first photography trip down to Somerset some careless swine opened their door into the side of mine. The offending car was still there when I got back to mine, and they'd had the audacity to fold in their mirrors, to avoid damage to their car. So annoying.

My first damage-to an absolutely pristine Yeti-happened on Monday. Parked at a giant M&S in a decent space and well within the markings. As I returned to the car with wife and daughter saw a Civic hesitantly trying to park next to it with an unusual diagonal approach. From about 50 yards away I saw the elderly lady pull into the space and get out and immediately go to her front off side to apply the flat of her right hand to push the plastic nose/wing trim of her car back into place. My off side bumper had a fresh slight gouge across the plastic and the plastic nose panel has a deep set of gouges between the parking sensor and the front edge of the wheel arch. First a denial -"I don't think I did hit you" met with the somewhat flinty response "Why are you pushing your car's trim back on?" Then minimisation "It will wipe off" Then an appeal for sympathy "I've just lost my husband".

I will get my pal Dave the painter to sort it. I won't claim as my NCB is worth more than the cost (many times over) and I am a softy. I find it unaccountably hard to pursue a defenceless target.
