Best Wax/Polish or Method of Cleaning Black VRS

Featured Replies

Hey

So the winter is kind of passing now and I am looking to clean my car inside and out this weekend.

Can anyone recommend the best method and products for a black VRS

Lets start at the start. Then before all hell breaks loose as to what's best to use.

What do you use now?band how much in total are you willing to spend on new stuff as its a bit of a bottomless pit

I currently use Auto Glym Wet Wax spray its ok but not great!

I wash the car first then dry etc then spray it on. I am happy to spend £50 on some products if it lasts and makes the car look tidy again

I use Poorboys products. Black hole glaze followed by sealant and topped with natty wax. Chuffed to bits with final result on my Black magic Octy.

Method I use:

Rinse with pressure washer.

Snow foam (product dependant on what you have or like)

Rinse

Wash with Meguiars wash, again use any you like.

Rinse using hose.

Dry using drying towel.

Clay bar (only required if the surface is contaminated or hasn't been done in a while)

Rinse off.

Now the next bit depends on the state of your paint, either go for a polish, or as I prefer, Poorboys Blackhole. It will give a very good shine, fill in minor defects but not major ones.

Then a decent way, I use Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax or Meguiars one designed for black cars.

Also clean your wheels :D I use Bilberry Pro, spray on before snow foaming, then rinse off. Generally doesn't need agitating either.

Then do your windows and trim if required.

Clay barring is easy, simply get your clay, spray the supplied lube over a panel, and push/pull the clay over the surface in a straight line. Keep the panel wet.

Remember to mould the clay back in to itself often to keep the surface of it clean and fresh. Once a panel is done (you can tell as it will be a lot smoother) wipe over with a microfibre.

Just bought all of your suggestions, lets hope my VAx turns up to do the seats :)

How bad are your seats?

Mine had coffee stains (stupid me didn't put the lid on correctly)

Used Autoglym foam interior cleaner with a damp dishcloth, some elbow grease later and all clean :)

There quite bad, I heard great things about the vax cleaners

Oh yeah they will definitely get it clean :) Just for a quick fix, look at getting some foam cleaner, only about £6 and saves dragging the VAX out for a little job in the future.

I was thinking of hiring a Rug Doctor for my seats, and my house, and my girlfriend's car's seats! I think with the detergent it works out at about £40 for 24 hours.

I'd finish with the likes of chemical guys jet seal 109 sealant then a wax of your choice current on my car is colinite for winter months and then I will prob go with dodo juice supernatural for the summer months

I was gonna suggest CG Jetseal 109 too. Remember, black hole is a glaze, so all it will do is fill slight swirls thus masking them. Nattys is a reasonable wax, but not very hard wearing imo. You'll have to repeat the process probably every 1-2 months tops. JS109 will last 3-6 months depending on conditions and the amount of mileage you do. Sealants are much more hard wearing than waxes. If you want proper long protection (I'm talking 2 years!) look at the GTechniq range. ;)

I find the Nattys hard wearing tbf, and I do 500+ miles a week.

what colour nattys wax do you use?? i was advised to get the red one and it looks terrible ?? i was told the white is for light coloured cars and the blue is rubbish ??

I use the white one. Got recommended it for Red cars due to the UV protection, but told it also works well on darker cars, which it does.

I used to use Black Hole glaze but recently switched to Chemical guys Black light used with Chemical Guys 50/50 paste wax and gives great results.

Some good advice here, ill touch on scheduling. This (like any process) is subjective, but I've found this effective.

I'd start by doing an overhaul detail, so machine polishing it followed by glaze and wax (wash and clay prior to obviously) Then build on that initial detail

So wash once a week/fortnight (whatever you can squeeze in). I'd glaze after every wash with a black car. (This offers mild protection whilst keeping swirls hidden and doesn't take an age to get on and off).

Wax once every 4 months, good wax lasts long, especially if your taking care of the paint.

Clay before every wax also. This is good for the start of each season.

Then once every 6 months or so re-asses a correction polish.

Then between each wax cycle offset any other bits such as interior, engine bay, door shuts
