1.6 TDI Remap

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone dealt with this company before ?

They claim 145bhp/320Nm from all variations of the 1.6 TDI engine.

Cheers

JJ

Might help to know the company?

Sorry dudes, tired last night !

This is the URL :- http://www.more-bhp....tdi_remaps.html

Ideally I would like switchable maps, say you could switch to 75hp for milling around then switch to 145hp when needed, I guess switchable maps and DPF delete will happen in time.

Cheers

JJ

Those figures are achievable, somewhere in the range of 135 to a max of 145 is about right. Here's a Revo map, but don't chase top end, look at the curve

nearly twice the bhp just from a map is very good going.

thats pretty good, over 120bhp between 2800 - 4700 revs!

Why do you want a switchable map? Your right foot does all the switching you need.

I can understand if you are teaching a kid to drive though.

How will this effect engine can it damage the engine ? What does all the curve mean? I'm a Neanderthal when it comes to this stuff, please explain

Nice to see the gains.... as soon as my warranty is up in less than a year my 75bhp 1.6CR Elegance is going to get a little '' boost ''.

Hudson are these safe?

a guy I work with had his mk1 vrs mapped with more-bhp.

Ran it for 2 years up to now with no trouble

They are as safe as the person driving it .....

Boot it from tick over on a cold engine and somethings going to go pop one day, let it warm up properly, drive normally and let it cool down properly and it will be safe.

EVERY Skoda I Have had has been mapped, Mk1 Fabia vRS / Mk2 Octy vRS TFSI / Mk 2 Octy PD140 Elegance DSG / Roomster 1.9TDi / Superb 2.5 V6 Tdi / Superb 2 TSi, all of them did over 30k Miles, and no issues with the cars whilst owned by me. Maps I have had have been from Celtic / REVO / Performance Torque / Performance Torque / Performance Torque / Shark (in that order)

Drive like a knob, on a cold engine or with little to no mechanical sympathy and something will go pop, just as it will do on a standard car.

PS, Everything is declared on my insurance, one of the joys of being a bit older :) I don't get loaded with stupid premiums.

It's DPF filling that I'd be concerned about.

The main risk from a remap used to be overfuel resulting in high EGT's and melting pistons. Smoke was a pretty good indicator that you were on the way to doing that.

But with a DPF there is no visible smoke, instead it can just be filling up the DPF with soot and causing very frequent regenerations.

It has made it a lot harder to pick a map and know it's good. I'd almost want to see a similar engined car with DPF removed running the same map before committing to it.

I'm not too worried, all my mileage is motorway / A road work, it rarely get's used around town, we just use the Mrs's Petrol Polo. I Drive out late Sunday night, park up at the hotel, walk to work, drive home Friday night :-)

The 75 and 90 brake 1.6 CRs are basically de-tuned 105s, so the gain on a 105 won't be as big, more's the pity, as I have a 105 to start with

But we still get about 30bhp more ?

I have just ordered a tuning box, as mine is only 4 months old I don't want it mapped, but equally don't want to wait for the warranty to run out.

At least this way I can benefit from the extra shove and them be able to take it all off when it comes to servicing time.....or if the worst should happen I can take it to the dealers as a completely standard engine.

The tuning box I've gone for (TDi Tuning) reckons around 135bhp and 220 lbs/ft torque. I certainly won't be chasing figures, but as long as it is nice to drive I won't care!

Hudson are these safe?

I guess only time will tell, but by the time the year is up i think there maybe more information out there, my engine is exactly the same as the one with the 105bhp, so i know for sure i can get at least that BHP without any issues, I have another car (Mk1 1.9tdi Elegance) that my partner has and that has been mapped and runs very well indeed, infact when it was done the difference in the drive was noticable within the first few yards ! I am keep to get this Mk2 done but would also like the DPF removed, so i think i will keep my eye on the developments in the market and make my choice in 12 months.

On a subject of tuning boxes, my dad bought one from here http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/ for a Golf 1.6 TDI 105, he used it now and then and it seemed to work okay.

However when I got my 1.6 Monte I called them up and ask if it would work on the Monte, they said it would, but I also asked why I could not buy the box for the 1.6TDI on they're site now and they said they had issues with the box only working on some cars and not others, so now they only sell the pedal boxes for the 1.6TDI.

When I pushed if it was to do with engine damage or anything mechanical he advised it was just down to the fact it worked on some cars and not others, needless to say I have not even tried it on the Monte yet.

If you are after a box, I would reccomend TMC, they have a good reputation, and many onhere are using them without any issue at all.

Strange that TMC list the 75 and 90 bhp 1.6 diesels, but not the 105

that is odd... they are usually one of the first to have boxes out, and one of the most comprehensive lists! probably worth givivng them a call though... I have spoken to them before, and know that for a fact they list the SAME boxes under different car specs, i.e the TSI box on the fabia vRS is exactly the same as the 180bhp tsi box on the audi..... maybe they simply havent put the 105 on the list..

maybe the lower powered box is exactly the same application on the 105 (as you previously said, its the same engine in different mapped states, so in theory the same piggyback ECU should do the same job....)

Strange that TMC list the 75 and 90 bhp 1.6 diesels, but not the 105

Thank you for that Brimma
