59 REG OCTAVIA VRS TDI DSG FEELS SLUGGISH

Featured Replies

hi guys. just bought a facelift vrs tdi dsg on a 59 with 93k on it but im not totally happy with the drive. it feela sluggish compared to the manual 08 vrs tdi I used to own that was a pd tho. any enlightenment would be appreciated chaps

Power delivery on the newer CR engines is VERY different to that of the old PDs, they dont have that whipcrack grunt between 1500 and 3k RPM and power and torque delivery very (almost too) linear up to 4.2k RPM.

They are effective rather than exciting to drive, and pile on speed at a surprising manner (i.e dont feel particularly quick until you look at the speedo and realise how fast you are going). One big benefit is the massively improved NVH, they are quiet and actually sound quite nice for a derv. 170 version is massively better than the 140 IMO, have a vRS CR now and had a MK6 Golf 140 and the vRS is considerably faster. The Golf felt a fair bit slower than a 130 PD Ibiza and Golf MK5 PD 140 we'd had previously but in reality it wasnt.

Something I have personally noticed with our DSG is that it is very lazy in D mode, only if you stick it in S or manual does it really go unless you are overly heavy on the throttle. Given yours has done a few miles thats not to say there isnt a problem though.

Thanks for a great response n ur right in D it is lazy. .. in s n using paddles its alot quicker n gathers speed in no time but doesnt put u back in ur seat like my old pd vrs. I think I was just expecting it to drive more like a manual thats all but deffo happy with choosing dsg...plus I got her at a rock bottom price too so will still get my money back even if I sold her a year later

Check the air filter as well

The pd makes more torque than the CR and thats what you can feel

You can use the "D" on the gearbox too? Well who knew...

Gearbox will learn your driving style over time too - if you like "spirited" driving, the box will learn this and act more quickly. No issues with mine.

was serviced 4k ago so think filter shud b ok but ill check.

I think the air filter is only changed at 60,000 miles so it could be 33k old

I ran a k&n on my pd vrs and also in my Superb and used to clean then every 10-15k , the performance really starts to tail off when they get dirty

fair enuff rich... ill get it checked. hopefully I may c a difference. thanks

Might be worth putting a few tankfuls of shell v power diesel through it in case it's been run on supermarket diesel...at least it will clean the injectors out a bit

ive started on d v-power the second I bought her just in case. had a bad experience with tesco brand in d old pd vrs I used to own.
