Ahh... the thread that just REFUSES to die!

I hear what your saying skinner... a 14 year old car does need a bit of maintenance. I've still got a soft spot for the Golf, the handling was brilliant, and I still love their classless, chunky looks.

Even though its not as fast as the Clio (not by a LONG way), it was more fun to drive - its handling was just better and more communicative and even though it was slower, it felt like you were always going fast. In terms of fun, the Fabia just cant get close to a Mk2 Golf GTI.

What's a mk2 Golf??

What's a mk2 Golf??

Its a VW that is slightly inferior to the Original MK1 golf :sofahide:

But we all know that the 8v is the better one to drive :)

You reckon? I've never driven the 16v, but I'd imagine the 16v to be better TBH. I know people say they have less torque, but they dont really do they...

not driven a 16v much but a well sorted 8v does "feel" better.

Was on track with a very nice Mk1 today... was a quick blighter till it slid wide @ Druids under heavy pressure from the BMW... which was amusing till the BMW went off @ Old Hall after heavy pressure from a 360 Challenge......

I must admit, despite all the hassle I had with it, I miss that car.

I loved the 8v, but i had a thirst for more so swapped it for the 16v, 8v and 16v are both excellent and have their benefits and bad points.

Mark them in different areas out of ten and you will come up with a pretty even score at the end.
