Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Was speaking to a mate who has a golf tdi with cruise control in it, he was saying if the wiring is the same a s the golf then a stalk is

You can fit it but the wiring needs to be added and the speed sensing wire attached. Plus it needs to be turned on which has to be done by the dealer if it is a newer Fabia.

If you search for cruise contol, you will find more info.

Have done it, so has VRStu. Full installation and yes the control stalk is around the

All the wiring isnt there in the Golf, you still need to add some wiring.

The Fabia system is quite different, but not too difficult, ive done half dozen or so now.

Big K does it all for

Can anyone explain what the buttons do on cruise control - have it on my new car and the 'down' has "SET" next to it and 'up' has "RES" next to it. Can I do other stuff by holding the buttons down or pressing them a set amount of times. Didn't come with instructions on how to use the darn thing so would really like guidance... (or is it in the manual?)

How to use the cruise control should be in the Owner's Manual under Controls and Equipment - Tempomat (cruise control system).

ah, t'is ok, found it on here! (thanks to whoever said this - i closed the window now though so can't remember!) - doh!

The CC stalk replaces the existing turn indicator/high & low beam stalk on the left of the steering wheel and includes those functions. The stalk has a sliding switch on the front labelled Off, On and Res and there is a press (Set) switch on the end of the stalk. Cruise control is switched on by moving the sliding switch to the middle (On) position. When the car is at the desired speed (30kph or higher) that speed can be stored and set by briefly pressing the Set button on the end of the stalk. Speed can be increased by depressing the accelerator but the car will return to the stored speed when the accelerator is released. Use of brake or clutch will switch the system off temporarily, but the stored speed can be regained by moving the sliding switch to the Res (Resume) position briefly (the switch will then self-centre to the On position). Sliding the switch briefly from the On position towards the Off position briefly and then allowing it to self-centre will also temporarily disable the cruise control.

The stored speed can be reduced by pressing and holding the Set button (this is the opposite of what happened on my Senator) down to 30kph minimum, and can be increased by sliding the front switch to Res and holding it there without pressing the accelerator. I find it more convenient to accelerate or slow down to the new required speed then use the Set button to store that speed.

Provided the car is in the appropriate gear (ie not in 5th at 30kph going up a hill), the cruise control will hold the stored speed with impressive accuracy.

Button on the left (set) is to set the cruise speed to the currently indicated speed & activate cruise. If you press the set button and keep it down, the speed will slowly decrease (and stay there).

The slider on top next - middle position is where it returns to, does nowt in there ;)

Push down for 'off', push up for increasing speed.

Also, cruise deactivates on depressing the brake (handy that ;)) and when you change gear (not necessarily handy but you can see why I suppose).

No indicators on the dash unfortunately on the Furby.

I use the cruise regularly, to avoid speeding when the roads are clear in the lower-speed zones ;)

On motorways at night cruise can be handy for the same reason, esp. on such fine roads as the M25, where you can get done pretty easily..

It deactivates when the clutch is depressed, not when you change gear (clutchless gearchanges  anyone?)

Whoops - yeah you're right :D

Does the cruise work off the ECU speed or the speedo speed, or isn't there a big discrepancy between the two? :D

Well he's got 92 of them ... who's going to be the guinea pig?

Cruise control works by regulating engine output and not the brakes. So going down steep hills, you can exceed the set speed.

??? - does it matter? - it just holds the speed at which you're going when it's set.

It would be useful to have a dial or set of buttons for 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 though :)

I haven't worked out why one would want to turn cruise control completely off. You can't easily set it by accident since pressing the end of the stalk is a deliberate action. I leave the slider button in the middle (ON) position all the time.

The only car I've seen cruise on, you set it to the speed you wanted to go, rather than the speed you were going and the car would try and get there as quickly as possible (it was an auto box), so the traffic-light grand prix was quite fun ;)

Chris

It sits in the middle position whether you like it or not ;)

I do use the 'off' switch sometimes, mainly when I know the car will cruise along without having to brake, for example if someone is pulling out in front of me and is getting out of the way again. When that happens I drop the cruise 'off' and hit 'on' again once they're moved - which will pull back up to speed.

The car we drove in the US was really good, like ScoobyChris' description :D - nice with a big V8 sporty car, that is hehehe :D

The rate of acceleration seems to be dependent on the difference between the "set" speed and the current speed. As you say, it can be "interesting" resuming a set speed of around 70MPH from a current 30MPH or so :D

I don't think it would be the same with manual transmission - the CC would disengage every time you changed gear...

You can buy the correct part cheaper from a Skoda dealer.

Not too sure on that Denis. That loom is only available from VW AFAIK and is just under
