MY05 Mercedes S350

Featured Replies

Put it like this - an S class Merc is nearly as heavy as a small country. A small V6 engine is not enough - it needs 7.0 V10 minimum - surely !?!?

I get into a routine every morning. I tend to feather my car for around 10 mins until the oil is about up to temp.

This morning was no different. I was following a Mercedes who, on approach to the first of 2 round abouts, switched lanes from the left to the right [dual carriageway]. I suspected he was going right, so I maintained my lane and went straight on. He did the same, which is actually not wrong, but just a bit odd. But my very presence irritated him so he 'gave it some' to the next round about and maintained his right lane, despite there being no traffic.

But he got caught up waiting for a gap, so I pulled next to him, saw a gap and went - he missed that gap but took the next one, tearing across the round about to block me off and prevent me from moving into lane 2. So I waited on him passing and pulled out behind, squeezing the throttle.

I could smell his cats immediately but without even braking a sweat I was maintaining my gap whilst accelerating. I did at this stage think to myself how typical this was of people who drive large executive cars with small engines - when all of a sudden it got a new lease of life and started to pull very quickly on me - so I pushed the pedal hard into the carpet, realising it was already there.........

I was beaten - and to make things worse the guy kept the throttle pinned until he was out of site :thumbdwn:

I quickly gave up and pretended I wasn't part of his erratic driving spectacle anyway :rolleyes:

The point is - people chat lots about diesel this that and t'other - but modern petrols are right there with the diesel in the technology - and even a 2+ tonne barge with <250hp can make mince meat of a diesel hatch with nearly 130 lb/ft per tonne at the wheels....................eventually ;)

Dude, I got my a*s whooped by an OLD early 90's Mercedes 500SEL....that guy just pulled up on me and disappeared thereafter...don't undereastimate ANY Merc....except the A-Class...donkey car :rofl:

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

:rofl: - plus they tend to be driven by those who feel the whole road (both directions) is theirs.

Especially fun when you attempt to go past them at the speed limit, doing twice their speed (I was doing about 60mph, they were doing 30 mphish at a guestimate). I indicated, clear road ahead, and ended up having to nearly go off the road to get past as the bird in the car decided to swerve over even further. Horn down, high beam flashing, she eventually realised and shifted back to where she should have been...

Grr. I quick blip of the accelerator later and I was past... Then had to slow down for 30 zone about a mile down, at which point she was obviously speeding at 40mph... Typical.

National Speed Limit doesn't apply to BMW/Merc drivers, they have their own separate Highway Code as well, with sections on 'How to fill up two lanes of motorway by driving along the white line for ten minutes after overtaking', 'How to sit 2 inches behind someone going at national speed limit while overtaking so making them pull over prematurely' and also 'How to de-badge your bottom-of-the-range 316S and add an 'M' badge in completely the wrong place on the boot lid, which automatically allows you to behave as though your car actually is an M3'

'How to de-badge your bottom-of-the-range 316S and add an 'M' badge in completely the wrong place on the boot lid, which automatically allows you to behave as though your car actually is an M3'

Don't you just hate people who rebadge their cars :rolleyes:;)

I had that at the Ring - took me ages to catch and pass a 4 door BMW 320i :( Turns out his was an M3 Evo and he was in turn surprised that a 1.4 16V Skoda had overtaken him :D
