Considering a nearly new Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

I'm just considering purchasing a nearly new Octavia vRS, never having owned a Skoda before. I test drove one today and was really impressed - price was 16,949.

What I'm wondering is, I'm presuming that most of the technology still goes back to 2004? Or what facelift improvements have been done since then? Part of me thinks ill be paying quite a lot for pretty old technology - but it still does feel like a lot of car for the money.

With the new mk3 looming I'm also wondering if I should wait a while and see if the mk2 price drops further or maybe push the boat out for a mk3 - although not sure I could justify >20k (well, my wife would kill me...)

Do,people still think a £16k vRS with 7000 on the clock (options include rear parking sensor and xenons) is a good values for money purchase based on the age of the core technology?

Thanks,

Andrew

The vRS is a great car without question. It is excellent value for money and the technology is not that old. The Octavia was facelifted around 2009 so it will have the newer TSI engine and other modifications. It is, as you say, a lot of car for your money. My guess is that the new Mk3 vRS will be a lot more money as it is quite a lot larger. Having said that, you should be able to get more money off with some decent haggling.

Diesel or petrol?

Too much for petrol sounds about right for the diesel. I've just bought a petrol VRS wagon 1200 miles for £15.5k from a main dealer.

The technology goes back to 2009 as far as electronics are concerned as it is essentially a MK6 Golf underneath with the chassis of a Mk5 Golf.

Hi,

I think it sounds a little bit expensive as well, as I paid £16500 for a brand new petrol vrs in November with rear parking and maxidot.

The internals and stereo of my pre FL looked a little bit dated.

The FL dash, bolero, etc looks fine to me.

I paid around that for my diesel vRS with about the same miles on it as well back in December. If I had to choose if I would do it again, any day of the week :D Hit 10k miles today, loving every minute of it.

The Golf Mk6 also has the chassis of a Golf Mk5.

:D

A great value for money car; think of it as a much more practical Golf GTI/GTD, better equipped at considerably less cost.

The facelift car is more or less a MK6 Golf underneath and shares all the same mechanical and electrical tech; sure its built to a cost so perceived quality isnt quite so good but they are well put together and no less durable.

Regarding which engine to choose....all down to personal preference but both are v good. Petrol is more fun and more of a heart led purchase; diesel is still quick but also v efficient and is more a head led buy. Diesels are better bets residually and generally more popular due to the mix of performance and low running costs.

DSG again a personal preference; I think its a great gearbox and marries great with the diesel engine; also only way to get a factory multi function steering wheel.

Definitely a good time to buy; have a feeling used prices will firm up rather than deflate when the new one arrives as its not going to be the great value proposition the MK2 is; I decided to bite the bullet and buy one of the last new ones at 20% discount and see what deals they are offering on the new one in 3 years time or so.

Great car, you won't be disappointed (after a cheeky remap :) ). But knock them down a couple of grand if you can.

18 months ago i paid £15,500 for my VRS estate - DSG,Xenons,P/Sensors - granted it had 31,000 on clock but with a full service history and Diesel engine that didn.t bother me

That price of yours does seem a tad expensive but they are quality cars despitet some people still having badge snobery

It's a petrol.

The blackline is good value - but depending on how fussy the OP is over colour, soec, etc might be difficult to get the right one

When I was at the dealer the other day I was told (make of that what you will) that there are only estate diesel Blacklines left - and only a few of them, expecting to be sold out by mid Feb

I just paid a deposit on it today after a second test drive and hopefully pick it up within a week.

Now I just need to get the Mini properly valeted and sell it.

Congrats! Is that an ex managers car? Mine is KU12 xxx and was told that managers in Milton Keynes get the KU12 registered cars.

That's was I was told too, yes - managers car from head office. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing!
