Reality check

Featured Replies

Soo my beloved has had to go in for some body work repairs (nothing serious) today and the car fixer-uppers have given me a Corsa 1.2 as a courtesy car and I thought it was broken because when I pushed the pedals nothing much happened.

What a reality check this is. I've been looking at a potential replacement to the Octy recently as it was feeling slow. Not anymore. Really can't wait to get the vRS back in a couple of days. That is all. :)

That's a good idea...

Send the car in for some work every now and then get a slow courtesy car.

I've currently got an Ibiza 1.6 CR TDI and it feels very sluggish in comparison to my car but looking at the speedo it does get moving pretty quickly.

A 1.2 Corsa would be awful to have!

Quality, I just got my vrs but I down graded from a 400bhp Subaru thinking that was slow lol, loving the smooth drive of the vrs tho.

i thought the same when i got given a citiGo. It struggled to get to 70 on the M4 lol

You think that's bad?? My vRS went in for a service with Benfield and they gave me a Chevrolet Spark 1.0 as a courtesy car....!!

Haha glad I'm not alone in this. My wife thinks it should be an annual experience for me to keep me in check :)

Have driven a couple of low-powered Chevrolets at work recently. Truly awful cars!

Now driving a brand new 320D (edit: at work - still vRS petrol for me at home!)

The Beemer is very nice (apart from the diesel rattle!) with build quality up there with the Octy!

Have to say the Spark was truely awful! I was shocked when I looked up how much they cost. Surely buying a second hand Fabia etc would be a much better bet?

The 1.2 Corsa is a dire drive- I had 1 on hire for the day to go to a meeting. I just can't believe people would spend their own money on something so lacking in all departments. The throttle just seemed to be connected to an elastic band and had no effect on engine speed at all. I was glad to get home that night.

I had a citygo as a courtesy car for a day, turned my nose up when I saw it but better than expected and not as flat under acceleration as I expected a 1.0 to be. (Thanks Faintree Skoda!)

lol, same with mine! my vrs is currently in the bodyshop for a new boot to be fitted due to rust :(

I got a nissan micra 1.2..... aside from the crappy engine my first drive out of their yard nearly resulted in a crash when I braked for the t junction and not much happened!!. Them brakes are made of CHEESE!!!

cant wait to get mine back this week.

I was quite glad how diabolically slow the corsa was when I had to brake coming home from work....they brakes were even more useless than the accelerator.

And the fuel gauge...wtf? I put £10 in the car and it didn't register with either the fuel gauge or the range indicator until after about 3 miles. I honestly spent 5 minutes after pulling out of the garage wondering if I had simply poured the fuel down the side of the car. As a poster above said I cannot believe people spend their own cash on a piece of useless crap like this.

I also find it genuinely insulting that Skoda think its an acceptable substitute. Its not like you (as a customer) haven't already paid a good sum for the car and then subsequent servicing.

Very much agreed, you just get used to what you have and when looking at something new you want it to be faster. I was furious with my Octavia last year for having a DPF sensor failure the night before I was heading off on a 1,000 mile trip which I ended up doing in a 1.3 automatic Yaris (last car the hire company had pretty much) but it was superb driving the Octavia once it was fixed as I'd forgotten about the days of having to really plan for an overtake with a good long run up and a decent gap on the other side.

I used to have a 1.2 corsa on a p reg many many years ago (when a p reg was almost new). It was 8 valve. Ive had many cars inc a few small engine sized ones (fiesta, micra) and I swear it was slowest car I've owned by some distance. Truly horrible car.

I feel your pain we have 1.3 diesel Corsa's at work, scary on the motorway steering is mega light zero feel and 0-60 is a good hour or so.
