Whiteline RARB has arrived...

Featured Replies

...in the post today. In the next week or two it will get fitted along with the Skoda approved 20mm drop Eibach springs.

Just wondering which of the three roll bar settings to go for?...bit inclined to think that you would go for soft or medium with standard springs, but go straight to hard with uprated springs.

Any thoughts?

I went to medium with the intention of changing to hard at some point, but haven't got round to it yet. When fitting the new springs I wouldn't change the RARB settings as you will not know what is having what effect.

Mine is on medium , on my old Evo 6 with Eibach springs was also on medium

Suppose I can start on medium and see how it feels.

It's not as if it's difficult to change settings.

Go Hard Or Go Home ;)

Hi XK,

I was thinking about getting one of these. Would you mind appraising it once fitted and let me know where you got it? Are you fitting it yourself? If yes, how difficult is it? What did you pay? Congrats on purchase. Cheers,

I also started on Medium, probably it's everyone's initial approach I guess but eventually I felt there was still some margin for improvement and set it to Hard. Right now, I'd say that for this car, it's pointless to set it anywhere but Hard as it's just not doing a full job plus there is not an increase in "discomfort" between the two settings, to be afraid off. Put it there from the beginning, it'll save you another 30 minutes to re-set it later on.

I fitted mine about a year ago and it made such a difference to the handling. Car feels far less sloppy in the bends. No idea how it compares to the H&R RARB though.

Fitting is relatively easy. I put the car up on ramps as you need the springs compressed and there is little guidance for jacking points. Took less than an hour.

Got mine from DPM Performance, can't remember the price but couldn't find it cheaper and it can next day delivery.

I paid £141,post free, from Awesome ,they are very reliable and a good price,I think.

Eventually,I'll give a assessment.

It looks easy to fit there are full instructions which are reproduced on the Whiteline web site if you want to have a preview.

Fitting the springs is more difficult,of course.

Some ARB's can be too hard for road use and can result in loss of grip if set too hard so harder is NOT always better, if its set to hard the suspension force transmits from one wheel to the other losing suspension independence

Some people need to read up on the subject and not presume tuning cars involves turning everything up to 11!

In my experience the medium setting is more than enough on the road and is too much on some surfaces the Whiteline bar only needs the hard setting if going on a nice smooth racetrack

Ehmm, I believe I specifically said that "for this car" it can be set to Hard without any issues. This means my advise concerns the experience I have had with this car alone and nothing else. Never said anything like "switch everything to Hard" so I don't really understand how you deducted that but anyway, you might have had a hard day.

That aside, most people's conclusions on the Whiteline ARB is it is most beneficial when set to Hard and that is something I would agree. The article just mentions what the potential problems of using a super-stiff bar can be and it's in general, but If we are still talking about the vRS+Whiteline combination, this will be hardly ever the case. If anything, some people were not even satisfied from the level of stiffening Whiteline provides and went for the thicker H&R. Obviously, each one's handling preferences differ...

I disagree I find that on medium when hooning down country roads the outside rear tyre can occasionally skip out , this is due to the inside wheel hitting a bump , things might improve a little when the weather gets warmer but essentially the arb is trading less body roll for less grip on bumpy surfaces there is a reason the bar is adjustable not all Whiteline bars are

You can't compare one make with another just on diameter , the designs varies greatly and this causes changes in performance far more than diameter.

It's doesnt vary on personal preference it varies on type of roads driven

I have very rarely encountered that, and only when there's a combination of roads with poor traction, bad weather conditions and pushing really hard all together. Of course as you say I may just happen to drive on better roads although I find it hard to believe since 3 other members above have confirmed having it in Hard with no problems and they don't live near me.

The comparison between Whiteline and H&R didn't have to do with the diameter alone but with the reviews of people who have tested both and claimed that the H&R does a better job, you can find them with a little bit of search. Personally I don't have a problem with the Whiteline bar, for me it does a good job and I don't need a stiffer rear axle as those reviews suggest is the situation with the H&R.

That been said I don't really see anything more in it to discuss. There are just two different opinions. Certainly don't see the reason of you persisting in wanting to make anybody that has not the same setting with you look wrong/fool/whatever.

Mine was always on the hardest setting, the handling was spot on with 40mm drop

So the Skoda approved Eibach springs are now fitted.

Car looks better...but that's not what I'm about,I want it to handle better.

And they do reduce body roll and a give more assured feel generally when pressing on.

So any downsides? Not for me but I'm used to cars with a firm ride, soft and wallowly equals less comfort to me.

Bearing in mind the target market and strong performance of the vRS THESE SHOULD BE STANDARD FITMENT IMO.

So is everything perfect now? Not entirely, there is a slight, very slight, amount of secondary bounce, so those with deep pockets would be advised to uprate the dampers also,I believe Bilstein do an appropriate set.I might fit these at 30k+ miles when the original dampers get worn.

Regarding the Whiteline rear arb fitted at the same time this has slightly improved turn in on faster corners but it's on medium setting and the car is still very much an understeerer ,so I'll try the hard setting in due course.

The Bilstein dampers are a good purchase, although as XK said you do need deep pockets.

I have them fitted to my vRS with H&R springs 40mm drop, the ride is firm but not uncomfy at all and handling is improved a great deal! A very good purchase IMO!

I've made my mind a long time ago that they will be certainly coming on when the stock ones need to be replaced. Springs and ARB are working fine but still I feel there's a lot of room for handling improvement.
