Big compliment from BMW driver...

...to all Skoda vRS and 2.0 drivers...

Dad had to give in my mother's X5 for servicing, and he got a 325i 2005 as a courtesy car...this was two days ago...

Last night, my dad and I were standing outside with my friend talking...standing next to my car...bla bla...the 325i is fast, but it's not the fast you expect...

My friend...'Sir, the new 3 series is nice. It's fast too!'

My dad's words, a 645i driver...'The new 3 series is not impressive in anyway, especially this 325i, and it's performance is lacking for what it is supposed to be. When you drive an x5 4.4 or a 645i, you get what you expect, & more. The 325i is 2.5ltr car and it moves like a donkey...'

...points to my car..

'This 2.0 Fabia's performance is outstanding compared to the 325i. This Skoda is better than that beemer'.

Yeeeeeeeeeeehhhaaaaaaawwwwwwwww! :orb_cool_

Nice....

But you could argue that 115 bhp is pretty weedy for a 2.0-litre as well ;)

I thought you said yesterday that the 325i was FAST and did 60 in under 7 seconds  I certainly know which one I'd choose ;)

It IS fast...but for the horsies it carries in a medium sized engine, it's performance isn't outstanding. I din't say it's slow. My father was basically saying that for the car it is, a BMW 325i with 218 bhp, it doesn't perform like a 218bhp car. But for a 115bhp 2.0 (now 122bhp), the Fabia performs very well. He wasn't saying my car is faster. He was saying it performs better for the power it carries.

My friend was driving my car home yesterday and I was in the 325i...he floored it and took off...I floored it too with the 325i but it was difficult to catch up...my car is faster than it feels, I was surprised at the way it took off, it's the first time I've seen it being driven by someone else (and it looks good :D )

Yes it is, I totally agree with you. It IS underpowered. But still, for that power, it performs very well. I just hope somebody would believe me in here.

I've driven a 325 albeit a cab and although it has 218 bhp, you have to rev it skywards to get the most out of it. It doesn't particularly feel torquey for a 2.5 ltr car when your driving day to day which subjectively makes it feel slow and the added refinement doesn't help the feeling of speed too.

Unless you rev between 4.5-6.5k revs on the BMW, it's not that fast! I can understand why someone would say that a Fabia vRS feels faster as the performance is more effortless when you are only revving in the midrange!

I must say also that I am very impressed with my vRS and it's an excellent car for the money but people who buy 325's are usually looking for other qualities apart from performance!

My dad had the same engine in a Mk4 Golf, and to be honest, it probably wasn't as bad as some people made out. OK, it wasn't fast, but it was quite torquey and flexible, so I can imagine your car isn't that slow, but it wont be all that fast either, but it will be a nice effortless engine for a petrol. I'd say my Dad's Golf was comparable in straight line pace to a 1.8 Zetec Focus, but the moment they would meet a corner, bye bye Golf...

I often wonder what people think when they have been over taken by a Skoda, bet they never tell their friends!

It's even better when it is your boss who spots you overtaking someone else
