I hate button blanks and have one left under my HVAC after fitting tpms to my pre FL octy. Any thoughts on what I could easily fit there? I also have the esp switch, front park sensor switch and the airbag warning light, leaving just the one blank as I say.

Depending on your head unit you could install a usb port? (seen in done on a Fabia but will admit to knowing nothing about Octy's )

I have an additional switch in there to open my electric gates.

Thanks for the suggestions, not a bad idea the USB port, but I have installed an mdi in the glovebox so have that facility already.

I did think about the gates option on mine, but then figured I'd need a button for the double garage door too and I only have one blank!!

I've seen a 3.5mm Aux socket put there, but not applicable in your case as you have MDI.

Gate option is good (or garage door) if you have either of those at home.

The mute problem for the kids not so much of an issue these days, perhaps I'll fit a button that locks the bank account and wallet!!

Seriously though, why are there two P buttons for parking sensors, on mine reverse is activated by the gearstick so only need one for the front sensors.

I think one is 'Park Assist' (with steering wheel) and the other is 'PDC'.

I suppose you could retro fit park assist and then legitimately have the spare button filled.......

Since the 'Park Assist' is available on a Golf of the same vintage, I don't see why it can't be fitted to an Octavia.

I don't think it was ever an option on the Octy, but an extra controller, four sensors, lots of wire and a button and you could have it on yours.

I seem to recall someone in this forum doing just that.

The sensors sit on the wing I think, saw it on a superb in my works car park the other day. Can't ever say I've noticed it on a golf, but their sensors tend to be less obtrusive I'd say, so not really surprised.

I am reviving this as having fitted my drls, I want an on-off switch for them just for the hell of it, and because it fills my spare slot!

I can source a P switch for the front parking sensors and I reckon this is a toggle type switch which should work as a simple in line on-off. The plan is to cover the P and have an active blank button, probably with no illumination.

My only concern is the switch is somehow turned on by selecting reverse and it glows orange when on, so it may not be usable as a simple toggle, but my guess it could be adapted if needed, or if I only wire up two pins. What do people think?

Also any crafty ideas how I might cover the P, other than tape? Vinyl paint maybe?

i tried painting mine but the underlying image showed through - vinyl tape worked fine (electical insulation tape to be specific) which is satin black so completely invisible when fitted.

on my gate opener i just wired up the two pins in needed rather than using a plug. hth.

You may be able to get the P off with a solvent and some gentle rubbing. I say may because it could damage the plastic just as easily.

I was going to install a USB socket in one of my blanks but I can't see how to get the blank out? I can get a finger in behind and push but it only comes half way out.

i wanna use one of these to control my remote garage door opener.
