Mr Bean gets his car back

Featured Replies

Adrian Flux estimate £38000 premium with a £200000 excess.

I bet he's sick of being referred to as Mr Bean. :) Or Blackadder.

Cheap considering the car costs £3.5mil. Good on him to drive it how it was supposed to be built for.

It didnt cost 3.5 million tho.

£640,000 in 1997

He has owned it for 15 years and says he wants to drive it regularly.

maybe while on public roads and not on race tracks he needs to be more careful.

The fact that the last one to sell made 3.5 million is another matter if he is not selling his.

The current 'possible value' would certainly be the reason it was not written off.

(being told what he paid in Excess might give an idea to the full story.)

I am sure he could have footed the bill himself if the Insurance had not been prepared to repair it.

It might be 'Immaculate' right now after the total rebuild but can hardly be sold under the description.

'One careful owner'.

Accidents happen...

Have you never hit a patch of black ice or slid a little bit in snow?

Try that with a 550 bhp rear wheel drive...

It really doesn't take much for it to go wrong

I don't get the anger against him. He uses the car everyday so statistically he's likely to have more accidents. At one time it was the fastest road car on the road so I bet its a handful at times. I think fair play to him to use it everyday so everyone can see it. The attitude that he should have paid out of his how money is stupid. Like everyone else its what insurance is for, regardless if he could have afforded it himself or not.

I dont think there is any anger against him, and we know accidents happen.

The wet A605 up a straight in an early evening in August must be a challenging drive for someone with racing experience.

Just sometimes stories need to tell the full story,

but this reporting seems quite informative for once.

The first picture taken from the thread on Pistonhead at the time of the accident,

no idea if that is the correct place it happened.

The engine is designed to separate in an accident to shed inertia and leave the passenger cell intact. The damage looks far worse because of that.

As for resale value, a team of McLaren engineers took 4 weeks to evaluate it and 9 weeks to repair it back to it's original condition so hardly an Insurance Car Clinic repair. I doubt it's resale will be effected.

Cheers

They also didn't give him a whole new tub either as that's effectively a new car. It's in a magazine I'll have to pick up on the way home how they repaired it.

It's uphill in the wet on a small dual so white lines either side. All it would take would be a touch too much throttle on a white line to start a slide. When the first reports of this car came out they said it was skittish and being mid-engined it's a lot harder to get back in line. It doesn't matter how good a driver you are, once a car passes the point of no return you are just a passenger.

I have a lot of time for him tbh. He does what he wants and isn't overly bothered what others think. There can't be many other mc's that are used as often as his...if any, so good on im I say. That's the sad thing about motor museums- full of cars that never get used. I wonder if his has done the most miles?
