Removing trim pannels

Featured Replies

I need to remove the B pillar trim and the trim covering the door shut area so i can run cables from the front of the car to the back.

Is there a specific way to do this?

I tried yesterday and I couldnt work out how to get them out.

Looking at it I think you need to start with the rear pannel then b pillar then front due to how its overlapped but even going that route I couldnt remove the trim.

Can anyone shed light on how to do this?

I've just done this. I started with the b pillar upper panel (note there may be a screw behind the little panel marked airbag). It clips out quite easily and then the lower panel clips out easily too. The lower panel running to the front then comes off with a little tug. The rear one is a little more fiddly, but if you fold the bench up and remove the seat bolster you will see a couple of screws to take out, and then a sharp tug from the bottom does the job.

You don't have to remove the panels completely to run the wires and this makes it easier to put it all back.

Today I've tried to run the wires to the parking sensor controller above the nearside wing but a combination of heavy rain and not knowing what to do to get the carpet trim out yet I haven't got any further!!

Hope that helps a bit though

Start at the top of the B pillar just below the seatbelt hole.

Pull the sides if the trim out wiiiiide as there is a clip behind it on both sides. Do one at a time.

Top of this piece is pushed in so pull the panel down to unclip it (if you need to).

The lower panel has two clips holding it to the upright. Pull the top of the trim away and these will pop out easy enough. The lower edge (door sills) is held in by four metal clips. Lever each out and pull trim panel upwards to get them out.

There is a knack to getting the top part of the trim back so that the seatbelt works and without breaking the clips. But I can't remember and it was only yesterday I did this....

The piece in front (drivers door sill) is removed by first taking off the bonnet lever (a little clip hidden behind it) and undoing a screw in the same region.

Also undo & remove the large plastic screw by the accelerator pedal.

This trim is diddly to remove but basically has the same metal clips along the length (pull upwards).

I ended up with a small plastic 'pillar' left over when I put it back together.

No idea where this came from, so if you can help in return.

Sorry forgot to mention I was routing down passenger side which is slightly less fiddly in terms of the front door lower trim panel

Man up Adam ;)

I don't blame you - the bonnet pull had me worried for a bit, but I realised that the plastic 'tab' to release it didn't need to come right out - it only needs to move about 4-5mm and the handle can be pulled off. Just as easy to get back on.

Always easier with hindsight...

Is this for the PDC?

I went along the passenger side as well (made sense as the controller was supposed to be located that side), but then realised that my CAN gateway was in the 'wrong' place and the wires on my loom were too short...

thanks chaps. It wont be till the weekend that I get time to try it again but if i do find the location for your spare bit i'll let you know.

Im going to be needed to take both sides apart a few times as ive got 2 sets of rca cables, 1 remote cable, 2 runs of 0awg power cable and speaker cable to run

Yes am preparing for connecting the new PDC controller to the drive BUS on the CAN gateway, and I have fed sufficient wiring to the engine bay for the dreaded soldering when weather and daylight availability permits.

To be fair I would have gone down the drivers side if access through the firewall and PDC controller was that side, but as you say it made sense to go down the passenger side. But didn't have too much joy in dodging the rain to get to the old PDC controller this weekend :(

Joking aside, I don't blame you for going down the passenger side.

If I had to do it again, I'd go that way again.
