New Yeti ordered....Yaaay!.....Bloody options......Booooo!

Featured Replies

Hi Yeti peeps, my name is Carl & I'm a Skodaholic.

Just ordered a new Yeti & signed up to this forum to share my experience re MDI (see DAB thread) but thought I'd also add a 'Hi' & tell you what I've ordered.

Would have loved a 1.8TSI 4x4 but couldn't justify it (early-retired & no 'need' to go out in adverse conditions) so settled on a 1.2 TSI DSG. I'm a gadget freak, so the Elegance spec was made for me but, alas, a crawl 'round a few new cars + a few 1-2 yr old cars led me to the opinion that the 'leather' upholstery was cra didn't meet my expectations.

I therefore had to drop a spec & option up (never a cost effective solution in my experience) in order to get the cloth interior. In fact (thanks a bundle Skoda) I had to drop 2 specs & option up. OK, I know I'm an unusual freak & most people don't give 2 hoots, but I absolutely had to have the fold-flat front passenger seat & SE Plus doesn't allow it - it is a sports utility vehicle, right? So, SE model it is then, specced up to my requirements - nearly as much as the Elegance, but at least I'm a happy bunny. Would be nice if the options were a bit more flexible!

The move from a Roomster to a Yeti should enhance my street cred from 'Mr Softee' to 'Postman Pat' but I've probably undone all the good work by ordering a hairdresser's combination of Shark Blue / White roof / Onyx Blue interior. At least I've retained my individuality

Repeat after me "We're all individuals"

"I'm not"

Croeso Carl.

Another nightbird I see. At least I'm be paid to be awake at this unGodly hour.

Sounds like you have chosen a good mix, but I'm sure Postman Pat should be in a RED motor, unless you are thinking of M,ssier La Poste in his van bleu.

And one thing you will find on here is that we are all very individualistic. Sometimes worryingly so.

Not a nightbird by birth - I'm normally in bed by 10:00

Long story involving picking up friends from airport + delayed flights..................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm hoping my colour choices turn out OK - haven't been able to find anything in Shark Blue that I can view in the flesh.

Welcome aboard! Hope the wait doesnt seem as long as mine seemed! Just out of interest; have you sat in the alcantara and leather (proper leather) seats - they are by far the nicest imo and you are right, the leather (actually its mostly not actual leather) on the Elegance is fairly cheap and nasty compared to whats available in other cars! Good luck with it. :)

Welcome from me too. :) If you want real leather, you could do what I did with my Fabia vRS and Octavia II and have your Yeti retrimmed by Seat Surgeons in York. There are plenty of pictures on Briskoda of retrimmed Fabias, and I will shortly post pictures of my Octavia's interior.

Hi Carl and welcome - congrats on your order - how long have they said you will have to wait?

If you go on www.skoda.de the German site you can scroll all the colour combinations for the Yeti

Great choice i also like mine in two tone colours

Nope, but that's probably a good thing. I'm sure they're lovely but bloody expensive & I would have been embarassed to take the cost of an SE beyond an Elegance

Hi Carl and welcome - congrats on your order - how long have they said you will have to wait?

I got an extremely honest "Don't know". They said current builds seem to be between 12-16 weeks but also warned that the number of options I'd chosen could mean I have to wait longer than average. At least they didn't try & tell me my part-ex price couldn't be guaranteed, as one particular dealer did

Thanks, I'll have a look. Although I think the 3d configurator is fairly representative as I've seen on-line photos of a Superb in same colour & match appears pretty good

Hi Carl

My 1.2 se with quite a few factory extras was ordered on 11th Jan and I was told to expect delivery around early April.

Just phoned garage to see if it was possible to have Spitzbergs put on but was informed that these are not a option on the SE (can't see why not are available on the SE Plus)

But the good news was that its on its way already and I should take delivery 1st week in March 4-5 weeks early .

Even if the car was not in transit I would have been unable to upgrade to Spitberg .

SUK do appear very rigid in their options

That's very fast - 6/7 weeks from order to delivery, especially if a factory build and not a stock car. Wonder if my L&K will arrive so quickly? Ordered 30 January, so on your time scale could be here second half of March, but I'll not hold my breath!

Just hope I don't end up with a Friday afternoon knocking off time model, or are those days long gone!

I think that most VAG factory orders are coming through quicker than quoted. I have just been told by our VW dealer that the wife's new Up will be delivered 1st week March instead of 1st week April. Original confirmed build week was Wk 8 (w/c 18th Feb), but is now on "In Transit", so the build week must have been brought forward. The slow new car sales across Europe is the reason (not UK). So you could well be in for a surprise yet(i). :sun:

I think so as most now do a 7 day shift rota.

Mostly robotics nowadays, so fairly safe. There's a video is posted somewhere here but I can't find it quickly. Oh yes I can -

Ignore references to Octavia - them thar's Yeti!

Mine should be arriving in next few weeks. I ordered shark blue I'll upload photos when it arrives :-)

Amazing video many thanks ,how things have changed since Longbridge in the sixties.

Sorry Carl for highjacking your post

Try to find a video of the LR/Jag plant at Speke. They put Freelanders, Ewoks, and Jags down the same line together!

No probs - enjoyed (part of it) too. Will have to watch the whole thing when I get time.

All we need now is customer order id.....linked to production schedule......linked to an array of web cams.

Of course that's just me speaking as someone who has taken early retirement - imagine all the lost hours if office workers could watch their cars being built :mmm:

You will lose heaps and heaps and heaps less money come selling time by getting an Elegance... And I'm sure it will cost less to swap the seats out with someone else that wants leather or to have seatsurgeons do some fabric seats.

But I guess you do know that you get £0 for your £4000's worth of options come selling time? Hence why so many people are now getting L&K Yetis as some of the choice Elegance options are then standard. So you get ALL your money back (sans depreciation) come selling time.

But yes, I know, each to their own. :hi:

Couldn't agree more & wouldn't have considered doing what I've done if I were expecting to trade up in 2-3 years time. However, I'm early-retired, do © 5k p.a., and expect to keep this car for a very long time - hence the unusual choice.

Must say also that I actually like the look of the leather, just don't trust it to stay looking that way for the length of time I expect to keep the car.

Yup, we went for a SE last year, plus extras - 4x4, heated front screen, RRP etc as we intend to keep the car for 10 years. Can't stand bling and leather seats.

I'd much prefer a matt black interior, HUD display and fire button - oops, sorry, dreaming :giggle:

Our old MG-R Rover 25 diesel went for 10 years without a single defect, sold to a friend and still going strong, so no reason for a superior car like the Yeti to do anything less.

When I bought my SE I tried to keep the options to a minimum: e.g

I haven't got a phone and don't want one, so didn't need bluetooth etc [whatever that is?]

I'm retired, so by the time I go out the sun has melted the frost so no heated windscreen.

Same for heated seats; if you have cloth they're naturally warmer anyway--I was amazed by the quality of the seat surgeons work though!

I too want to keep the car at least 5 years, so depreciation of the cost of my option list wasn't really a consideration-- I just wanted to keep the list price to a minimum with due regard to the choice of engine and standard trim level I needed /wanted.

I would have been tempted by a petrol engined 4x4 but the 1.8 was too costly in fuel/tax--but I still do about 13k a year and regularly travel 20 miles into town and back so I thought that should keep the dpf happy

I cant understand why the alcantara interior is not available as a no cost option on the elegance. if it was I way have ordered one! im not a leather fan!!!

I've been moaning about this since 2010... It's a SUK thing that makes NO sense. On an SE Alcantara and leather cost EXACTLY the same so ergo it should be a no cost option on an Elegance surely?!
