LCR Brembo's upgrade

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Have all the parts for the Brembo upgrade, except the brake fluid.

Will I go with standard or is there better fluid to be using?

Thanks in advance,

Ill check it out so!

What DOT - 5.1 for the lad (vRS)?

ATE superblue is dot 4.

I use it in my vRS with brembo's.

Shortly I will be putting it in my other vRS with Tarrox 6 pots.

yup superblue

I've used both super blue and its negative color, super gold (200)

However, I've since been told not to use ATE stuff in VAG brake systems

Allegedly it contains something that can eat into the seals of the MC

There are a few threads on several forums

You want DOT 4 for UK

Last bleed I switch from superblue to branded VW stuff

No difference in braking performance or charactistics.

for those that can't be arsed to read:

Appears to be the blue dye making the clutch sqeak in some cars

eg Gold/200 doesn't squeak

ATE have a new(ish) fluid out SL.6 which is DOT 4 class 6, no blue dye

If performance is the same I might just go with the standard stuff then - presume its the same as they stuck in the LCR?

Cheers lads,

According to the chart I saw, the same spec brake fluid is used across the Mk.4 range

The OEM stuff and the ATE SL.6 have the same boiling point - circa 500F

Gold/200 is a bit higher - circa 530F

Prices all seems to be similar

I'll probably be giving Castrol React Performance Dot 4 a go at next time (554F boiling point - not far off Castrol SRF @ 608F)

Unless you're doing track days I wouldn't bother with anything other than the standard stuff. You are not going to see heat issues with the fluid with road use

I was stating the dry boiling temps more to show the lack of difference tbh

If you're using OEM spec pagid/mintex pads, they'll fade before boiling the fluid
