Battery problems

Featured Replies

Went to start the car this morning and it was very laboured, dash lights flickering and solenoids clicking etc, eventually the starter slowed to to a point where I thought it was pointless to continue. No-one around to give me a jump start so I rang the friendly garage around the corner who came out instantly with a boost pack, hooked it up, turned it over and it fired up fine.

The car is 2 years old with 19000 miles on the clock and, having only last week been serviced and used daily for at least 20 miles do people think it's reasonable to ring SUK and ask about them replacing the battery as 2 years doesn't seem very good to me?

Dont ask you dont get, doubt they will though, best buying a decent battery from ECP using the discount code, i've ordered one although mine is fine but peace of mind, i dont want my wife or family stuck due to a crap battery.

Mine wouldn't go this morning either, had to borrow the jump pack from work. Mines am 07 vRS TDi with 54k on it mind so it's lasted ok.

Cheers Grizzle, I probably will as I can't be arsed with the hassle and the probable 'take it to your local dealer for a battery check' where I can guarantee the outcome will be 'tested fine sir, no problems at all with that battery'

Glad I wasn't the only one :D but I'm disgusted at only getting 2 years out of it.

There is so many things that can shorting a batterys life, the worst one is sitting with the radio on for long periods and often. then leaving lights on when the engine is not runing.

Yeh thats what pee's me off about the dealers, "oh you need to bring it up for us to look at it" .... but i already know what the problem is...then to insult you tell you what the fault is... exactly what you told them lol.

 Again, wouldn't start when I went out to it this afternoon - battery is the 61Ah version, what in gods name possessed some bright spark to fit the 61 to the 2.0 diesel I will never know!

When I change my battery is it just swap the leads over to the corresponding terminals or will there be all sorts of coding need re-doing after as things will reset to default settings? Also would the Lion 70Ah from EPC be suitable? I don't want to spend any more than necessary as I may get rid of the car in the next 12 months or so.

Most 096 batteries with a higher ah will be fine. Just connect battery as normal. You will get some dash lights stay on but will go out after a while.

Ive just bought one for the auxbattery on my MB which discharges as I dont use it much in the winter now i have the Skoda. The batteries ( yes 2!) on the MB have lasted 10 years so you should be able to rejuvinate your 2 year old battery with luck.

I have a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger. It's the best charger I have ever owned. :)
