Which service schedule should I use -VRS

Featured Replies

:rolleyes: I am getting a new Octavia VRS this month and did not realize they can have different service interval settings,bearing in mind I will be doing around 8k a year as I have other toys to put miles on which intervals do you people recommend :thumbup:

It comes set for variable servicing. Leave it on that until the first service - which could be anywhere up to 20,000miles/2 years - then decide if you want to change to fixed.

The variable servicing and LongLife leaflet your dealer should be able to give you has useful advice, ie the most benefit is gained from the Variable Service regime when the car is used in the following manner:

* Mainly longer distance journeys.

* Limited number of cold starts, engine is kept at operating temperature over a longer period of time.

* Daily mileage above approximately 25 miles.

* Constant speed.

* Vehicle used regularly.

:thumbup: Thanks for the info DGW :thumbup::cool:

My Vrs is due for its first service (17k).

Its currently on a variable program but I have been advised to change it to a fixed program (10k) by a dealer service manager.

I travel avg 300 miles per week /60 miles per day(30m there 30m back home) /'briskly' :P

Price of the service schedule is seconadary when it comes to the protection the oil would give.

Therefore would I be better of on a variable (Full synth) or semi synth in a fixed and get it changed every 10k :confused:

If I carry on with a variable I worry that my engine won't get the protection it needs...again with a fixed only using semi synth I fear the same problem.

What should I do??

Why not leave it on variable but do a 10k oil change yourself....I guess though, this would have an effect on the service computer...measures the oil viscousity.....but you should have a service every 2years or 20k miles, which ever comes first so there really should be a problem.

Approx

some people have the car changed to 10k mile service but put the variable oil in.

On Varaibable is 20k miles the most mileage before a service?

Yup, 20k or 2 years - which ever comes 1st.

I've had the car 9 months and done 12k. I give the car plenty of time to warm - up/cool down but once its up to temp I do like to drive with 'enthusiasm' :D . I could change the oil myself yeah but as you said it would probably mess the service 'detectors' up.

Putting fully synth in every 10k seems a little OTT, especially as I would be then servicing the car every 6 months :(.

I will prob stick to variable all things considered.

Mine came on at 25k for the first service :D

See, I is a gentle driver ;)

Shouldn't you have had the car serviced at 20k regardless of whether the service indicator showed a due service or not :confused:

25k :shocked: Do you wear slippers and a flat cap when driving, I'll wager you have cushions on the parcel shelf too!!! :rofl:

Mine is still on variable, the car is weeks away from being 4 years old and has been to the dealer just twice for servicing so far. The next one is due in september based on the 2 year rule, I am sticking to variable because it can workout cheaper in the long run and I am confident that the monitoring sensors in the car know when the oil needs changing, after all the longlife oil is rated to 20k miles or more if you have a diesel.

One thing to keep in mind, is that unlike the 10k service where every other service is a major one, on variable every service is major.

Good guess on the cushions and, yes, I drive very gently and do not abuse my car in any way shape or form :D

Jon's is an oil burner with a 30K max oil change interval. And the bit about flat cap and slippers is spot on for him. :)
