Driving a DSG

No....I've never seen this at all in the UK.

That is interesting. I know the UK versions of my rangerover didn't have a high-stop light either.

I should clarify, that all cars in the UK have High level stop lights. They were required to be fitted to all new cars built after 1998.

But I've never seen one activated by a hand brake, only the foot brake.

We've had them since 1993 in cars but not legally required on 4wd's. On all my japanese cars (haven't checked the octavia yet) the high-stop and brake lights all go on with the handbrake. In aussie built fords too as I remember laughing at someone driving with the handbrake on.

interesting. ..I thought that D was just their for show purposes cos I always miss it and it slips into S !!!!!! lol

uisats, i can't access the video in that thread (it looks to be removed). however its not a clicking noise, its more like a clunk or knock when coming off the accelerator. its not gear change related, but happens more in 2nd gear at the lower speeds. It doesn't seem to clunk when you come of the accelerator at higher gears / speeds. you can hear it more if you open the window. I can only describe it as having a loose tin (of beans) in the boot and it banging into the metal with a bit of force?! It sounds like a rod or something is loose somewhere in the transmission. However when they stripped the transmission they couldn't find anything obvious.

Thanks Booble for your explanation. What you describe is not related to gear shifting so it's most likely something different than I thought. Would be interesting to hear how the new DSG performs once you get it.

I've explained it to the wife as such: S if for Scott's setting (my name). D is for "da woman" to use ;)
