Coilovers or shocks and springs?

when you do the fronts on these what do you need to get new?

on my octavia its got top mounts and bearings that are renewed, on these looking on etka its a storage top and a deep groove ball thrust bearing? do I just need the latter or do I need both bits?

does the std rear bump stops fit on or do the JOMs come with their own?

You will definitely need shorter drop links, you want some mk1 mondeo ones. I'd advise you to replace the top mounts. I didn't and all my bearings fell out so I had to rebuild it, I will replace them soon though when I can be bothered to take the fronts off. Think this is why the drivers spring pings when turning at low speeds.

As already said the rear bump stops will fit, that's what I've used and have no problems. If you're going to really slam it you might need the shorter bump stops.

Looks pretty good that pal think uve got me set on a set of these possibly next month :)

I don't think you'll be disappointed mate I'm really chuffed with them. Just make sure when you get them you tighten and thread lock the nut that holds the shocker together (see further up for pics) as it literally takes 2 mins but to take the strut back off when fitted is a right mess about.

Well I have been out with the tape measure and got it pretty much level all round finally!

The passenger front is set to the bottom and the drivers is set about 20mm higher, this must be due to the weight of the engine.

The rears are now nearly right at the top to get the arch gap the same as the front though! I'd of thought they would lower all the same to be honest as in the fronts down all the way the rears down all the way would look about similar but this isn't the case. Anyway I will upload pics tomorrow as it's dark now. I did actually want the front to match the rear but raising the rear to match the front has made it a nicer ride so quite happy.

As for handling I don't push it too hard but in my old focus st170 that was on 30mm springs there was a s bend near me I could easily take at 70, tried it in the Fabia earlier and it didn't feel as planted! Maybe because it's lighter and not on as wide tyres but having said that out of all the modified cars I've had (there's alot) the handling of the focus was unreal so might not be wise for me to compare the 2. Anyway for what I want it for I'm really pleased with the JOMs, looks good and ride is quite nice

Seems I may of left the original bump stops in as well as the jom ones so this is why it's sat high pmsl. Damn it this is not good

No wonder I couldn't figure out why the fronts were set to the bottom but it was too high yet reading other build threads they were 3/4 way down and it was slammed. Also explains it not being so planted when I was giving it some earlier lol

yea defo mate understandable with it not feeling planted buddy :)

Chopped them out today and left them at the bottom, still not that low looking at it but I can't drive on my drive now I have to reverse lol. Will let it settled tomorrow cos I've got a 200 mile trip and see how it looks. Damn these coilovers!!

If you want to go lower on joms take the helper spring out on the fronts and it can go alot lower.

I'm going to see how it settles with only 1 bump stop in each lol. I don't want to go stupidly low its meant to be my work car!

All these canges mate I hope your getting the tracking done? Your tyres wont last long if not.

Hope you sort them

I'm not 100% on that to tell you the truth they may well fit but will you really have it set to standard? Make sure you tighten the nut that holds the strut into the body before you fit!! I've not checked my passenger one as it's not knocking but had I known I'd of done both before fitting. The pics are on the other pages if you've not seen what to do

Yeaate I have cheers.

Yea about std hight only 10-20mm lower max. Speed humps and ride need to be good and as close to std as pos. These are a cheap replacent for the std buggered stuff and o can give it a slightly less 4x4 look lol

Cheers for the tips. Very helpful

No probs mate, glad my misfortune can help others lol. Mine are set quite low and the ride is still pretty good. Having said that the Mrs caught it on the tiny speed hump going into asda so she's not happy!

shes not happy, what about you, ida hit the roof if my missis bottomed out my car lol!!!

I'm on thin ice as it is so had to let it go! I said it wouldn't be going really low and now we can't drive on the drive its got to be reversed on lol, she's got to crawl over a little tiny bump going in asda and she "feels like she's sat on the floor". God damn these women

Lol see now I fixed that prob. When she was looking for a new car I got her a hyundai coupe lol so anything of mine she gets in feels higher lol.

She's had enough of all my stupidly low cars so I promised her I wouldn't with this. The worst one I had was a corsa GSi that scraped when our new born was put in the back lol. I've assured her I've grown up since then!

Well big thanks to DPM.

Not had chance to look at all the bits but will after work in the morning.

I do a minimum of 3000 miles a month and I find it quite comfy now on these. To be fair I'm running it as low as I can with the helpers in and the rode is nowhere near as bad as people make out. Even the Mrs said it's quite a smooth ride and the kids haven't complained. I'd like to try a car with the £500+ coilovers fitted because I don't think I'd go for premium ones for what I use it for

exactly my point mate! im struggling to find a difference in these compaired to the higher end coilovers on the market costing £500+?? if these are smooth comfy, absorbant is the main one not rock hard stiff, but handle like coiliovers should ie no body roll round corners etc then ill have to have a word with good old damien and buy me a kit!...
