selling camera gear....

Featured Replies

I've got a canon 40d and 50mm lens to sell off to raise some money for a 300mm lens, but can anyone recommend any sites to sell on?

Obviously i've listed them here and i've also listed them on P.O.T.N. and ebay will be a last resort, but has anyone any other recommendations for anywhere to sell gear that isn't full of scammers and time wasters?

Cheers

Steve

Local free ads can be a good option if you've something that could sell easily. I'm guessing there will be plenty of amateur photographers in most areas.

Local camera clubs?

Talk photography?

gumtree is free and fairly well used

cheers for the suggestions.... not heard of talkphotogarphy before, will give that a whirl. think i'll give gumtree a miss, i only ever heard of people getting diddled on there. probably not much worse than ebay but as said, i've not heard good feedback.

Local camera clubs was a good shout i hadn't considered too.

Cheers all

Just something to think about, I run a photography forum, we have a guy on there who was doing similar, selling his stuff to buy a 300mm prime, a few of our members have the new 70-300mm L and recommended this lens. The guy bought the prime as he intended.

We all went out last week on a meet and we asked him how he was finding the lens, his answer was that as much as the lens has stunning quality and he is happy with it he now wished he had bought the 70-300 L lens as he finds 300mm prime very limited in its use.

This might not be the scenario for you and you have a specific use for the prime 300mm, but I would consider the zoom also.

As for Talkphotography you will need to make 100 posts before you can sell. You are welcome to join our forum and sell on there. www.shutterchat.co.uk

Hi James, thanks for your post. I have considered the limitations of the 300mm primes but for my needs it will be fine. I shoot equine sports most of the time and have a 70-200 f2.8L IS which is plenty flexible enough for my needs at indoor events and smaller outdoor venues, but i would like a 300mm for cross country courses and larger venues, and maybe try out a few other sports too. I would probably be at 300mm all the time in that situation if not longer with a tc on. The 70-300mm L i would lose af at the long end wouldn't i with a tc on? f5.6 would become f8 which i don't believe the 7d af's at f8.... Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, i will roll on over and have a look at your site in a second, thanks for the welcoming invite.
