My boost leak hunt! - Top Boost Pipe!

Featured Replies

Hey!

On my continuing search to find my boost leak on my Vrs, I was wondering if people could take a photo of their top boost pipe that clips onto the EGR to see how it sits after a normal run?!

Mine seems to sit just slightly non-flush?

Any help would be appreciated!

Oh, also..I've been reading a few posts about whistling EGR Valves/piping...I wonder if I'm losing boost through this as its fairly oily and loose around the anti shudder valve.

I really need to find this leak but investing in a boost leak testing kit is going to be pricey and of course a compressor too!!!

All the EGR/ASV bolts should be tight. The top of the EGR on my vRS, with BLT engine, started to get oily. Shorlty afterwards a warning light came on and the EGR valve had failed.

Vrs whistles its just what it does even with my egr delete blt engine it whistles i thought i had a leak also turns out i dont

I'm not talking about the EGR specifically..all bolts fine on this..I mean the Boost Hose that clips onto the left of the EGR.

Mine sits un-flush..does everyone elses?

I understand VRS' whistle as normal turbo cars do..sure it whistles but theres an extra loud whistle that it emits under load and when it is warm that I've never heard on any other car before.

It's like a low pitched whistle. I am aiming for a recording!

The pipes don't site flush and have a bit of play in them. They seal under pressure.

It shoud be sitting straight. If it looks wonky or when you move it it's very loose rather than some resistance (from the rubber seal) then you might get away with a new seal (available seperately).

It's definitely not sitting straight. After a long journey or lots of acceleration it sits at an angle, nearly coming loose! I replaced the clip on it but this didnt help. Wondering if I need a new pipe?

cable ties. rough i know but it works lol

How much of an angle are we talking? They do sit a little bit off after a drive but shouldnt be enough to leak. Maybe put a picture up?

If you need a new pipe and your car is BLT then I have one ;)

Good way to tell if it's actually leaking is if there is black oily mess around the outside of the joint.

I'll get a picture up this evening or tomorrow, I'm talking a fair old expansion/gap after acceleration. I'm thinking its a BLT I'll check when I get to the motor, cheers!

That's how it sits after driving. I've done this on my phone so not sure if picture appears!post-94520-0-31200200-1361490932_thumb.jpg

Ps. The silicone is my failed attempt to seal the gap.

Oh yeah, thats not normal. One of the lugs has probably broken. New pipe needed or pikey fix with screws/cable ties

Cool this might be the leak! Pikey fix temporarily but perhaps I'll need a pipe!?

A little update. I've begun testing the boost..however my pipe that I got on my boost leak tester was far too small...No obvious sign of a leak yet however I am getting a new bit of silicone tubing to actually be able to shove it onto the intake and test it properly!

I've also ordered new seals and clips from Skoda which totalled £40~!!! Annoying but a step in the right direction I think.

Updates and photos coming soon!
