calling all vrs owners

Featured Replies

In reference to my earlier post entitled (having a mare )

I am having a few problems in prooving that the front springs for my vrs are the wrong ones supplied by an auto factors. I have spoke to Skoda UK to see if they could provide me with the correct ride height for my car and how it is measured they gave a web address for a site called Erwin which is a online technical guide of which I would have to pay for .I'm going to pop down to my local deal to see if they can give any written proof as after looking at the car

In the meantime could I ask all mk 1 vrs owners to do me a small favour by measuring there ride height for me and post them on here so I can use the results as a comparison

The best way to measure this is to measure straight up from the centre of the wheel up to the top of the wheel arch ( highest point)

Cheers

Most ppl that have vrs's on the forum have coilovers or have lowered there cars more, you would be lucky if 15% have remained standard ride height

I got 380mm. All standard vRS Estate. Brand new OEM shocks and mounts 6,000 miles ago. Original springs.

i run a stock car nowdays, with oe suspension, its 360mm from centre of wheel to top of arch, interestingly unlike the boat i mean estate vrs :giggle:

Ahhhh, I've just thought. I've got a shedload of guitar gear in my boot at the moment. Perhaps I should remove it and remeasure.

Although thinking about it, the vRS Estate isn't really relevant, since it has 25mm smaller wheels (16" as opposed to 17"), and only 5mm more tyre profile. So, there's 15mm of difference straight away.

Okay, disregard my previous post. Lets strike the vRS Estate off the comparison list, because it won't, unless fitted with 17's and 205/50/17's.

Boat indeed. I'll have you know, my Octybox handles at least as good as a 1950's stretch Cadillac. :giggle:

lol

I think you could be in for a real battle with the supplier. :wall:

The only way out might be to buy OEM springs from VAG dealer/TPS, & measure them up against the motor factor springs with the garage/supplier.

You're better off trying to get a written opinion from a Skoda dealer. But you may have to grovel and promise to use them in the future.

Mine is standard and comes up 370mm

Spoke to skoda dealer this morning mechanic said it looked a bit high but for them to prove it I would have to book it in at a cost

So I've picked up some OEM ones from tps then I'm going to the auto factors place in the morning to show them the car before I put the OEM ones on then if there is a difference I can be clearly seen

Its me own fault for trying to save some cash I suppose but hey ho we live and learn

On my hatch vrs is it 360mm and its stock as far as I know.

If the auto factors have the another VRS? spring in stock just compare it with your genuine ones. When we took the rear auto factor springs off mine they were much longer than the VAG VRS springs.

Arnt the vrs springs supposed to marked with dots. Think i read that on this forum.

sent from my Galaxy S2

mine have dots on fulnnily enough, wasn't sure what they meant tho!

All the stock VAG springs have dots for their rating/size.

lol, just goes to show, how much attention i pay to stock

still this one is staying stock, its just easier as a daily, much as i hate to admit it

A few pics of mine at standard height

Front always looks higher as the wheel arch differs to the rear

I guess its a quick way of specifying the correct spring/car on the production line unless of course your colour blind.

For info:

My car is a mk1 vrs 05' model with std springs / suspension, I did a visual check when i first got the car.

Front springs coded thus..........1 violet spot / 4 yellow spots

Rear springs coded thus............1 silver spot / 3 blue spots
