After years of trouble free motoring....

Featured Replies

The Octavia vRS went in for a MOT and service yesterday

Got around £700 bill, and nothing is covered by warranty direct. Is this the beginning of the end?

At least it passed it's mot with HID and LED Sidelights =)

Lots of little things including Rear boot seal, when it rains the spare wheel bay becomes a paddling pool, engine cover mount broken - £215 to to fix this issue .... £215 for an engine cover mount? Because of this problem the oil cap keeps breaking, on my 3rd cap now at £15 a pop!

Glad I've got the new company car an not using much of the Skoda, I can get things done in stages now. Not complaining too much, not much gone wrong with it over the years and still happy with it. Done over 114,000 miles now so should expect a few things.

One thing I have noticed, got a Mondeo Titanium X Sport with 19" rims as a company cay which has "sports suspension" and the ride i a LOT less harsh than the Octavia. Anyone who has driven between J3a and J5 of the M42 will know what I mean!!

£215 for an engine cover mount!?

I could understand £214 for an engine mount, but not for one of the little plastic lugs that hold's the plastic engine cover on!

I assume they are quoting you for a whole new engine cover, which even then sounds extortionate!

If the vibration of the lose engine cover is damaging the oil cap just take the cover off, it's only for noise reduction and aesthetic's.

Where did the other £485 come from? A fiver for the rubber boot seal, and..?

Sounds to me like the dealer has hedged his bets in the hope you'll just go "yeah - do it".

If a rubber bung and a broken clip is the beginning of the end then my vRS must be absolutely knackered! :giggle:

They are having a giraffe.

I have often thought about these aftermarket warranties but i always had a sneaking suspicion that they wouldnt cover the things you need them to. What are they like £400 a year?? Probably better chancing it TBH.

Why not try another garage for an MOT the differnce from one garage to the next can be massive. We all know of certain garages for easy MOT's, nudge nudge wink wink. Got my landy though an MOT a year or so ago and my hand fits through the door seal and the rest of it is held togther by cable ties. Thats why these dodgy garages exist, they are providing a puclic service.

I've got a service plan with Skoda and this covers MOT, Servicing etc. I'm definately cancelling my warrany it's around £30 a month for main dealer cover it's cheaper if you use an inipendent garage as they don't use genuine parts and labour is cheaper, not worth it now and take my car to another garage to fix. Sailed through the MOT.

I may have been a bit harsh about it being the beginning of the end! There are other things that need fixing on it, loads of little things that have added up. Creeped up on my as it was serviced last summer and had no problems at all.

Major things : Boot Seal £108, Rear Bumps worn and perished £129.91, Auxiliary Belt worn and perished, Engine cover £215

Might look at getting a used engine mount and just fitting it myself.

It's technically off the road now anyway as I have the company car but I can't bring myself to sell it - it's a cracking car.

Rear bump stops will not fail an MOT, you could just cut them off. If they ain't there it won't fail haha!

Know what you mean about the M42, the Octavia suffers from massive noise along that section, I think it's the lack of sound deadning around the boot area and under the rear seats.

I'm going to put noise reducing stick on panels on the boot floor and extra carpet noise/insulation around there and under the rear bench etc. The Astra I use has so little road noise compared to the Octavia it's ridiculous, both running 225/40/18's with same brand tyres and the Octavia doesn't saw tooth it's tyres so the culprit is definate down to lack of sound proofing.

Boot seal £108?

Do you have to have an engine cover? Sureley theres nothing in the warranty that says you do?

Don't know if you have to have it. Is it just for looks or does it protect anything?

I'm just going to find a second hand one and fit it myself!

Oh and I'm cancelling the warranty today, why pay a premium for something that won't let you claim? It's not like it's wear and tear lol.

I wouldnt bother with one mate, save yourself 200 odd quid. I've taken mine off (Because of the induction kit) and its been fine for years

Engine cover also holds the air filter on the octy doesn't it?

Time for an induction kit?

Time for a scrap yard.

That plus you can buy replacement rubber bungs for those for a few quid anyway can't you?

Boot seal and bump stops are not MOT items either last I checked.
