Radio Codes

Featured Replies

Before commencing a battery change, would i require one of these as do not have the radio code in my manuals ?.................Thanks

Not as far as I know but I'll stand corrected... I'm pretty certain anything on teh Octavia platform has the radio coded to the car and picks up the info when switched on via the K-line [?] connection to the back of the radio.

Thanks for your reply.....will have to look into this a bit more. btw what is the K-line connection ?

Not sure it's actually called K-Line any more but t's a connection to the cars communications system that allows tranbsfer of data between the various control modules

CANbus now.

If your car has this, then the radio code is stored in the car not the radio. You can remove the battery, replace it later and still not need the code.

This came in on most cars from around 2004 (I think).

Not sure what car you have, but unless its 'old' you shouldn't need one.

CANbus now.

Ta - for the life of me I couldn't trawl that out of my head!

Thanks for your replies. Have replace battery now. As said by KBPHOTO the radio is coded to the car, so no probs.

I did ask a mechanic what he does when disconnecting batteries, and he said he connects a "battery charger" to keep a constant 12v (not sure if this works ! )

Some garages plug a small device into the cigarette lighter / 12v socket which, I believe, maintains just enough current to keep the modules alive and their memory intact (sounds like something I need - and not for the car...)

2006 Octavia required a code today (call to the dealers so no problem) after a battery change so not all are car stored.
