How to Jazz-up an Octavia II Elegance

Featured Replies

Dear all

No, I'm not trying to make my Skoda look like one of those horrific Hondas, but I desperately need some inspiration from you guys!

I've owned my Octavia (58 plate) since new and bought it on solid, if unspectacular, reasoning. It was cheap, reliable, economical and safe. 4 and a half years on, I'm now a bit bored with it. It has done 74k and I've never had a problem with it at all, so it would seem stupid to trade it in for something else (although I have flirted with that idea quite seriously over the last month) and I'd rather not saddle myself with more monthly repayments on a whim like this.

Help!

What can I do to make this beast more interesting? I'm looking at installing a Pioneer all-in-one entertainment/navigation system, but what else could I do to fall in love with my car again?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Regards

D

So far (in the two weeks I've owned it) I've fitted pressed plates, Briskoda plate surrounds, Heko wind deflectors, Vanstyle uv car shades, LED lights (various) and a set of 5 spoke 18's with 215/40 t

buy my OE vrs suspension?

:)

Mont a vrs body kit and spoiler. Remap and there you go a fake vrs. Simalar power and it looks like one.

What are you looking for to keep you 'interested'?

More interior toys & gadgets or more power & more driving fun?

Interior: Columbus & MFSW, footwell lights, etc.

Driving: RARB, lowered suspension (Eibach or Vrs) & remap.

^ What he said.

It depends on what you'd considered "jazzed".

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm definitely more interested in interior gadgets and exterior aesthetics than performance. Footwell lights - interesting!

However, if I were to take on board some of the suggestions about driving and performance, would it constitute a 'modified' car for insurance purposes, etc.?

Changing the stereo constitutes a 'modified car on most insurance policies these days...

Whether they charge you for it or not is another matter.

Wow, really? I'd have to declare that?!

Also, by footwell lights, do you mean something like this? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1e6ace8052

How easy to install are they?

I'd definitely be interested in a MFSW as well, but is it possible to get that working with a non-Columbus unit?

Better to get the OEM footwell lights and wire them up to the proper connector in the car.

You can then code them in on the controller and they will be controlled properly by the car.

LED interior lights can really spruce up the interior. Also LED puddle lights (the ones under the door mirrors) look good.

4300K HID kit?

Although I would recommend telling your insurance company about every mod... in reality it would be virtually impossible to tell the difference between the standard and vrs springs and dampers ;)

Eddie has also done the MFSW swap (but with a Columbus). I don't know what HU you have or whether it will work. PM Eddie and ask him.

Apart from the Vrs springs sitting the car about 2 cm lower...

^ A few thousand miles on French D roads will fix that!

Crikey Rob you are determined to sell those suspension parts eh!! lol.

Try to find a L&K and swap the bits over? I love my L&K!

Thanks for pointing me to that thread, it is really useful. And also for suggesting that I contact Eddie, which I will do ASAP! I'm thinking of buying the Pioneer AVIC F9310BT unit, but not 100% sure it's compatible with my 2008 car, as yet. There seems to be conflicting reports about that!

Right, I've decided to go for;

  • Kenwood DNX520VBT SatNav system
  • Retrofit MFSW
  • Carbon fibre vinyl covering for air vents and radio surround trims
  • Citigo front and rear badges
  • 'Lip' style spoiler
  • Shark-fin antenna (although yet to find one I like)

I'm also thinking of adding side skirts and a front bumper lip at some stage, and would welcome suggestions here. I might also change the alloys for a sportier look overall.

I'll add pictures as and when I get the jobs done! Thanks for the suggestions people. Keep 'em coming!

And of course a set of nice 17" wheels.

I added a bolero and HIDs to my elegance estate. I have had it remapped for quite a while but the stereo and lights made it feel new again. I have to do this as I get bored and this needs to last another 3 years

Did you buy the Kenwood in the end? I'm thinking of doing the same with mine so just wondering you got on with it if you did go ahead with it.
